It's 7 years old now so I'm sure the warranty is long gone. As I've got a new shock arriving next week anyhow, I'm not too bothered but it is a bit ****. Last edited by EssEllTwo; 10-04-22 at 10:03 PM. |

I use paraffin to clean the chain but the owners handbook says don't use kerosene. What is kerosene - I thought it was what the Americans called paraffin? ! I cleaned the chain a few weeks ago and rubbed gear oil on it ( I also have a Scottoiler fitted ) but it seemed gungy so I cleaned it again and rubbed Scottoiler blue oil over it .Haven't ridden it since though as I am waiting for a new shock absorber. Scottoiler oil has some tacky anti fling properties that gear oil doesn't have. |

Wouldn't have thought so, but it does mix fairly well. Agitate the bottle before use.
The watering down is just to take the strength down and to wash the loosened crud away. Sent from an S20 using Tapatalk with that kin cr4p blocked

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
I hope so, I've been using it for years.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
yes and the workshop manual states that you should use brake fluid to install calliper seals which we all know is wrong.
the reason we are not to use paraffin and things to clean o'ring chains is that it can "wick" behind the o'rings and destroy the grease. grease removal is the number one cause of chain stretch and seized links. technically you should not use a scotoiler either as the oil does the same but in practise a scotoiler is better. btw chain plates dont stretch its the rollers that wear and the grease dissipates. |
