well yes and no,

it got thrown out as i think it caused a big back lash, and it was more of a case of the Council trying to be a bit to PC, i dont think any other religious group ever asked for it to happen.

I think that people we welcomed 30 or 40 or 50 years ago have a right to carry on their own traditions. It's not all about 'imergrants etc'.

That said, I don't get upset about Eid or Diwali, so neither should Muslims or Hindus get upset about Christmas. And I genuinely don't think that they do.

A small extremist minority do object to our traditions, and a certain group in mainly local government seem to pander to that minority. There seems to be another group of managers in public services jumping on this bandwagon too,as it gives them something to do in otherwise useless employment.
I still think this is essentially a numbers game.A few dozen people arriving here can do what they like and have no effect on the rest of us while a few million will have a big impact however they behave.

Christmas is a plagiarism of pagan mythology and is almost an entirely secular holiday in the western world so it's hard to see why people of any type of background can have any objection to it.

The real issue is why should the taxpayer fund the propagation of the bronze age mythology of christianity in the form of the church of england, as with any other religion for that matter.

Neio, you know what i mean.

Problem is, a lot of people seem to be very very insecure about being seen as racist. So keen are people to be seen as tolerant that they won't stand for the slightest racial indiscretion. This as a result rubs off on public officials. As much as I'm infuriated by the 'must not cause offense' brigade, I don't think they can really be blamed, as the public will crucify them if they're not careful.

Public Officials----People in largely useless employment who have to be seen to be doing something to justify their existance.

Being proud and being able to display it should be a given right of any citizen in my mind. How can that possibly offend anyone? I think the PC correctness on that issue unfortunately comes from the bad old days of the BNP when in truth they did not promote themselves too well and did attract a rather questionable element.

Ok Americans might go over the top with their patriotism but you have to admire them for it? Here in Spain a country that is in truth more segmented than you might imagine due to regional claims for independance,(e.g Vaskos and Catalans) they too are massively patriotic when it comes to the push.

Patriotism is not a thumbing of the nose at any foreigners living amongst you, it is merely a display of the fact that you too are proud of your origins.

And exactly how far do our roots go back? Are we talking when, as a country, we were ruled by the Romans? Germans? Vikings? French? Or are we only talking the last 100 years or so?
