You can really see how much bigger USD forks are when you see the old forks in the new top yoke!

I just wanted to check that the custom risers fitted with out hitting the tank, but sadly it was not to be and the top yoke would not slide far enough down the stem to see. Also it was really cold and I did not want to be outside for that long!

So does that mean the risers will be no good with your new setup or am i just reading it wrong?

The honest answer to this is that I just don't know. What I had tried to do was just slip the new yoke on and see if they fitted, but it needed more than just a little press on. My shoulder was really hurting and it was also very cold, so I gave up, went inside and cuddled both the cat and my hot water bottle.

Carol took that photo of me yesterday when I was at Wayne's. He was working on his damaged ZX10R and just wanted someone to balance the back end of the bike while it was in the Abba stand as he took off the forks.

I was so cold stood in his garden that I was shivering and could not stop, so Carol put the hood of my Streetfighters hoody up and Wayne gave me an old sheepskin coat to borrow.

I was still cold and looked like I had special needs!

In all fairness, that spanner is so shiny, I think I'd want to hold it.

Wayne takes great care of his tool.

Anyway, enough of this filth.

Sylvie is now up on her paddock stands. In the next few days (and providing I don't hurt myself or get a pain spasm) I hope to pull the front wheel out of the fork and and get the tyre removed and put onto the R1 wheel.

Once this is done I can start work on the taking out the fork legs, bottom yoke and head bearings. Having not changed the head bearing on a motorbike before I am quite looking forwards to this. I can then press in my new shells and kindly Wayne has allowed me to borrow a bearing press so I don't have to bash them in with a hammer!

I am days away from getting the R1 forks on to Sylvie, I just need my health to be as good as it has been today. It still took me two hours to move three bikes (my Sylvie, Carol's ZRX and our mates bike that we are storing), move four cans of old used engine oil (that I have for five years been meaning to take to the oil recycling place) and then put Sylvie on her stands, so things are are looking positive.

So I am thinking happy thoughts and hoping that the stabbing pain in my shoulder is not an indicator that I have over done it and hurt something.

Its not difficult, especially if you've got s press.

To make it easier (specially in this cold weather) warm the headstock. Spannerman recommended used a rag soaked in boiling water, i've used a heat gun. Just be careful of the wiring if using a heat gun.

Won't hut to pop the shells into the freezer, but I didn't bother

That is a good idea, thank you and to Spannerman too.

To be honest, I have done this before and just having the ambient air and then handling warmed them up again pretty quick. That was on another bearing though that was larger in size. The head bearings I have used for this one are excellent quality Koyo ones, on the recommendation of the evil genius Mr YC, but the races are quite small. I imagine that they could warm quite quickly. If only I had an old CO2 fire extinguisher, I could make dry ice while I do the job!
