I've not quite taken over from Lemmy but I keep finding myself out having a glass of wine. I've got zero willpower on a Friday night. But I was home by 8.30.

Not enough rain to wash the salt away from the roads.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
We had enough yesterday to do that here in Buckinghamshire but the mist is stubbornly sticking around this morning so the roads are too greasy for me to want to go out and play. Shame as I'm busy next weekend and the forecast for today was so promising.

The news. Reports of the migrant crisis, shooting in Canada and the epic storm in the US and then... the people of the UK suffering poor broadband speeds.

US Storm: on the news it was barely snowing, no worse than snow here - not interested and not relevant. It is to them, but not to us. Not news worthy Canada shootings: Not really news worthy, just another shooting, when they curb gun ownership in the State & Canada, then this type of thing will stop. Until then it'll be a regular occurrence. It doesn't affect us, so I'm not interested. Poor broadband speed is relevant, as BT Openreach has a monopoly on the infrastructure. They're not delivering what the country needs to improve the network & the MP's have said it should be broken up. It doesn't just affect consumers, but businesses as well, which isn't helping improve the countries productivity by having a fast and efficient broadband service. OK if you live in a town with fast broadband. Out in the sticks, you're stuffed. Its relevant to the UK & of national interest. News worthy, even though it was behind the snow storm report!!! Best not to watch the news at the weekend, when its quiet newswise.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Well the (so called) 'blizzard of 2016' didn't do too much here.
Haven't watched the news to see if someone else got the worst of it but snowfall totals at only a bit over a foot here. Did experiance some whiteout conditions several times on the way home yeaterday but just had to stop for a few seconds until visibility returned. Mostly just flurries today. My grip of the day is: Snow is too deep to ride the quadbike and they are asking all to stay off the roads (unless it's an emergency) untill they are cleared, so no going out to play. Unless of course you're a panda.

I totally agree, poor broadband speed is very relevant! Luckily I live in a state where legislators passed a bill requiring companies to provide high speed/data service (as an option) to all customers so even though I'm out in the sticks I can get the same broadband options as those in the cities.
