Luckily I live in a state where legislators passed a bill requiring companies to provide high speed/data service (as an option) to all customers so even though I'm out in the sticks I can get the same broadband options as those in the cities.
Loads of people in the stick are still on dial up speeds Bill, which is mostly down to BT Openreach not installing the infrastructure. There's no competition, and they can just say no.

You did escape the worst of the snow, some places have had 26 inches, but hardly snowmaggedon and not worthy of the news over here.

Perhaps journalists have a formula for ranking events, something like
Importance = size of event / distance from newspaper office ^ 3 + picture quality * celebrity content
So a footballer crashing his car in London is front page material because they've got great pictures of his broken Lambo. While thousands of people could be massacred in Africa and only get a few column-inches on page 9.

Thats a great theory Keith and works

38 million people affected by the snow in New York, including celebrities stuck in their homes with no bread. Top news story on the Beeb this morning

Amen.

A local lad wins the Dakar Rally on the back of a third placed first attempt and whadaweget... ball sports and tantrums by overpaid brats.
Then two days after the win he finally gets a bit of footnote coverage. Perhaps he needs to be coached properly on how to chuck a hissey, but I suspect that is simply not his way.

Or nationalise it and make their priority to give a good universal service to all, instead of profits for shareholders?

Yes, a common sense idea, but that isn't used at all these days

Because it ends up being: "nationalise it and then let it fall into the hands of unions and people who get good pensions and bonuses regardless of performance so they don't care, because to admit that they did a bad job would be political suicide, and end up being a complete heap of extremely expensive dung" or some such similar story.

Not that privatisation is any better.
