My first off/accident - Miss my bike already!

I know it is probably not what you want to hear right now but did the police get recovery to move your bike for you? Or did you use your own road side assistance? If the police got it moved for you then you could face recovery charges.

The police got my bike recovered for me and I had to pay £150 then £10 a day for the recovery place to hold it for me. In total it was £200. I had no choice in the matter either .

Get it back asap, they charge a fortune and it's something less to worry about.

though I wouldn't have the foggiest idea how to transport my motorbike from an A to B of about 40miles!?

plus the place that charged the fortune was the recovery service. £390 I forked out to have it their 3 days! My bikes now at sudden impact - they're just a specialist paint/accident repair specialist. I asked about storage charge, and I think they implied there wasn't really a storage charge - unless I misunderstood...hmm better clarify that one

Bear in mind that the repair place will be quoting to get the bike back mint, getting it ridable is a different proposition.

Now if you've smacked into the back of a car you've probably bent forks, front subframe, Broken headlights, fairing, mirror, indicators, levers and rearset. Plus tank and bodywork damage.

You may also have buckled a wheel, twisted the yokes or bent the spindle, bent the rear subframe, scuffed/bent exhaust etc.

Now if you want to just ride it you can cope with lots of scuffs, scrapes etc as long as the bike is straight, your first thing then is to see if forks etc are bent, if not then you're laughing but I'm afraid to say it's **** easy to bend forks. You can straighten them if they're not too bent or get new legs if they are. You may want to consider a front end upgrade while you're at it. Even if you have an 'S' and your bodywork is smashed you can run for a short while without it!

I like the changes that have been made to the SV in your picture. I see you have the front indicators mounted elsewhere, with the windshield and parts of the fairing cut out. Could potentially get away with doing that - less parts to replace!

The problem is, I think Ive pretty much trashed everything you listed - and I remember the woman mentioning the forks!

Could I find good second hand parts to make my bike roadworthy, improvise with a naked SV for a while, and labour costs (as I'm clueless) for around a grand?

Ouch. Glad you got off relatively ok but sorry to hear about your bike.

I hope you're succesful with getting 100% no fault on your part. It looks like a no brainer to me.

Big difference between trashed, looks crap and trashed un-usable. You can for example live with dented tank, scraped bodywork etc, even massive cracks in the fairing can be stuck back together with a soldering iron and taped up.

That previous picture was an interim stage while I located decent panels to replace the ones I'd broken. It was like that for about 5 months though until it ended up looking like this

after lots of buying of bits on ebay! (I did sort the mudguard too btw).

Now this is the same bike (a few years later) after it was a cosmetic write off and I made it into a track bike.


fairing doesn't look too bad does it? But if you look at the full size image http://www.fastdruid.co.uk/albums/ca...4/DSC_2138.JPG you can see the massive scuffs and the taped up crack in the LHS fairing panel (the silver tape btw is for a camera on the tank). The tank is yellow btw because a pre-dented tank was 6 pounds and my black tank was still decent!

With a repair bill that large the bike *will* be written off, probably a 'C', it then depends on your insurance, if you are fully comp then you may be offered the option to buy the bike back. If you are TPO or TPFT then if found in your favour you'll get a pay out on the pre-accident valuation of the bike minus the salvage value. In my case my <3 year old SV was valued at 3k with a salvage value of 300 pounds.

The first time I crashed it it cost me about 1k to get it sorted again, I did all of the work though. In my case I dropped it and it then slid into a kerb, damage was:

Find a local mate with a van, go get it back. Then figure how to bodge it up and if it's worth doing it.

If it's going to cost you a grand then NO it isn't, buy another one and break this!

Who told you that balls? Frames maybe expensive can't think of much else for the curvy. I got new forks, front wheel , cam cover plastics, mirrors, indicators and tank from a breaker. Then just bought some head bearings and renthals from a shop.
