Shout at your local politician, councellor, Gov't official for more of us. Safety cameras only make that 20 meter section of road safe. Me in my Volvo makes everywhere I go a little bit safer 'cos everyone drives pefectly when the Cops are there don't they!
And even that is highly debatebable.

I would vastly prefer there to be more traffic cops than cameras.

Not sure I would unless they're only working when I'm not on my bike!

That's the thing though, cameras are self funding so it's not an either/or thing, or shouldn't be at least. I've got no problem with cameras as part of an overall policing plan but it seems like some forces jumped on them as an alternative to traffic cops. Though to be fair, half the reason I still have a clear licence is probably down to the lack of plainclothes traffic cars up here

Well I'm a 999 response officer for the Met....

I can say for sure that there isn't officers doing the job, in the last few weeks we have only one response vechilce (blue light for 999 calls) to cover where I work....so as you can imagine I am very busy some days.

I want to move to traffic eventually, but it will take me time. I was talking to some traffic officers about what I want to, I want to move to be a bike cop.
I know it will take me another 2-3 years to get there and also jobs coming up. But the comment the traffic cops made is, "cool, but if there is a traffic unit in a few years"

In the past month I have arrested 2 people for drink drive, yeah I do what I can I had car taken off the road on saftey grounds and also I can seize anything uninsuraned on the road, whcih is great.

Simple fact I have learnt is that 999 teams bottom of the pile, if I stay where I am I wont get my driving course and progess my career so I'm leaving soon as I'm confirmed in rank and I get a traffic job.

When your only the blue light vechilce on the road, do you stop to give a mobile tickect or carry on to a fight ect?

All the money is going to on PCSO's and on safer neighbours as it apperas it what the public wants, while my team runs on below min strengh. Traffic no one seems to care about.

I want to do the job, but find a real lack supoourt in pursit of working my way towards it.

I have been stopped once last year, that was too check my speed on the bike and why where I was at that time of day.

In the past few weeks, I have pulled people from wecked car that I saw crash at 50+ into a tree, gone after suspects armed with knives and yesterday had a mile long foot chase after a suspect.

You are far too fit for traffic

Put on some weight, realise that the essential food is kebabs and curry, stop having a positive outlook and get cynical.

May I ask some serious questions to the police guys / girls.

Why did you join the force?
How do you stay positive when there's so much paperwork / people are given such small sentences for crimes committed
How long do you think you will stay in the force?

Thank you

Might be worth posting that as a new thread. Its an interesting question and this threads getting old now and might not be read again by those who you want to answer the question.

If they stopped you to check your speed, wouldn't it have been zero?

But seriously folks, where were you and what time of day was it?

Also, where was your fleet of brand new umpty million pound helicopters while you were chasing Joe Scumbag for a mile?
