My cage (Landrover Series 2A) is sat in the garage awaiting my 25th birthday (only 6 years now) so i can afford to insure it

603 miles back from Germany in torrential rain, two-up and luggaged up.

Got home at 1.30am and went out for a rideout at 8am.

I did ullapool to john o groats on a single road with passing places then john o groats to newcastle after dinner. It took all day and rained from JOG downwards. I was luggaged and pillioned too. But I could hear the strom laughing and shrieking "come on ya b@57@*d" so I just kept going.

Think it was about 600 miles

Yeah do-able but not at sane-ish speeds, suspect you will need to be moving at 90+ a lot of the way just to maintain a steady 60 overall. Remember every stop will drop the average down and there will be bits that 90 will be rather inappropriate and you are not leaving time for unexpected holdups If you're not already a long distance rider on a regular basis (by the time you do this) then you will feel it after 250, 300, 350 etc by 450 you may be questioning your sanity and beyond

Either leave loads earlier and be ready to stop a few extra times or split the journey into two days, enjoy it a bit more and not have that ferry time distraction while on the move

Do-able, but I wouldn't want to Andy. Do you need to check in for the ferry at 3:30, or is that the departure time and really you need to aim for 2:30?

Hi friend!
I think you should drive at steady 75 mph, than you can cut this long route. I did not this journey in one hit. I have done 450 miles in 10-12 How many miles have you done in 10-12hrs. It would be better in you could do half of it the day before. Also, having to keep an eye on the time is not conducive to a safe ride. In my opinion, it is very tough to do 600 miles in a day.

Done plenty of runs down to Dover/Portsmouth/Plymouth on our more stressful m/ways! (450+miles)This Spain route is maybe only half m/way though. Usually a pillion and a ton of luggage too. Not this time. Easier in those respects.

I have to say I would not be asking the question normally as I would not flinch doing that kind of distance over a full day. In a normal day with no time restraints I am happy to ride till early evening at my own pace.

My mate has done the route a few times but never in one go and wants to break it up. The good thing is we will be taking the same route on the way down so we should get a better feel for it. 2 days travel.

Our problem for splitting it is we will be up and away to the racing at 7am the day before. All day at the racing and then back to the digs for dinner and beer with the girls (papped them on a plane over!) Last night on holiday, want to chill then get head down.

Last check-in for ferry is 3.45 for a 4.30 departure. Maybe need to leave at 3-3.30am .

Surely 12hrs is enough? Anyway, cheers for all the replies/tales of derring-do folks, plenty food for thought.
