Nah the mod thought about it, been then realised it was better suited to british economy to keep the more expensive asraam and amraam than to re-wire the jets, and buy bulk from the yanks

Yup...

They named the missile after the snake, because the missile seeks heat and the first guidance systems weren't too clever, every time it needed to change course it would tend to overcorrect, then overcorrect back the other way, so it would zigzag towards its target, looking a lot like a snake in its movement.

(useless trivia for the day)
