I always use a cheapo mains drill £15 on this 30's house walls.

All that is needed is a decent drill bit and hammer action turned on.

If I had the cash, everything I buy would be HILTI.
I was working on a site in Kentish Town just over a year ago now, and the labourers (all from Ethiopia) were told 'anything on the floor, throw away'..... Well they picked up the diamond drillers hilti drill which costs well in to the thousands, and threw it in the skip! And guess what... The skip got taken away!! That was one very unhappy diamond driller that day...

15 year old bosh corded drill for the tough stuff, 18v cordless makita for pratting about - taken some right hammer.
If you use them a lot a kit with 2 batteries is well worth it and don't think spotlights on drills are just a gimmick, incredibly useful. Mate's got a £300 (RRP..or so he says - he paid under £100 for it) Bosch 24v set, ferkin smart and the batteries charge in literally 15 minutes and lasty long time!

Didn't know dewalt are black and decker, currently loaning a dewalt cordless jigsaw as it put my bosch to shame so much that I couldn't face using it!

Some friends have some Ryobi stuff, it seems to work OK but it is flimsy build, very firmly in the DIY category. Personally I would only ever buy industrial grade stuff, pay a bit more but get much more beef.

I have masses of the Ryobi one+ 18v range. Very good stuff for the money. Would put it in the serious DIY/cheap pro range. Makita/Bosch pro/Hitachi pro stuff is better, but this stuff is less than a third of the price. Had no problems with build quality either, and I don't treat my tools kindly!

If you're drilling hard brickwork it's hard to beat a Hilti SDS+ drill. We had one in one of my previous jobs and it worked a treat drilling holes in solid concrete.

I wasn't willing to spend the money for a Hilti so I bought a mid-range Bosch SDS drill. It's drilled half inch holes through brick walls without any problems. So that gets my vote.

Keith.

Edit - I've just had a quick google and I think mine is a Bosch 2-23

I've a petrol driven Ryobi chainsaw and it's stood up to alot of abuse. As for those deals I wouldn't touch them. Only ever buy Li-Ion cordless stuff.
