To be honest, a £50 Gixxer shock off Ebay is a massive improvement over stock that I'd be inclined to try that 1st as long as you don't mind cutting some of the battery box.

I have managed to aquire a K5 GSXR1000 rear shock, looking through the numerous threads on here i get the impression this is this going to be to soft, would I be better off trying to find a k3/4 one? I weigh around 90kg
Any advice/ experience would be thankfully received ![]() (edit) this is to go on a K5 pointy Last edited by christian1000; 18-06-11 at 03:52 PM. |

is this 90kg with or without bike kit on?
racetech say 8.1 is stock with a recommended 9.85. so if the 90kg is without kit then i would go to a 10 if it is with kit then i would go 9.5. either way the spring is to soft. don't know if its possible to swap the spring out of that gsxr shock but it might be worth looking at. also how many miles has the shock done? |

dont know if you can but how about getting the shock serviced with shims and spring to match the sv. would more than likely come in at £100 mark. that way you know that the shock is set up for you and your bike. still makes for a cheep shock at the end of the day.

Woah there horsey!
I had a GSXR k5 shock on mine, and I'm a fair bit heavier than you. Put it on, try it out and see what you think before shelling out on a rebuild. Pete ![]() |

Aye thats my thoughts at the moment, figured I would whack it on give it the old college try and decide then, think if it was too soft I might go down the route of flogging it and getting something stiffer. Getting a rebuild is quite a big departure from the cheap modification I had in mind
![]() I mean if anything it's stiffer than the stock so should be an improvement Also horray damping ![]() Last edited by christian1000; 18-06-11 at 04:11 PM. |
