Simples

Let them visit you in a hospital bed and realise what they are doing to you is stressing you to the point that it has made you seriously ill. At that point they learn that you have to have some life of your own.

As the cardiac specialist I saw said on my first appointment, tell your wife you want your trousers back. I asked, she said no.

That is why got back into bikes a few years ago after 20 years away. I was too busy working, raising a family etc. To have time for myself. So for relaxation I would hit the pub too much.

Now if I am moping about the house she rants what is the point of having a bike in the garage if I am not going to use it. Pee off and come back with a smile on your face.

Ralph, that rings a bell here too.

And to all the people who suggest a biking wife is a good idea, think again. Combined with kids and turn and turn about method of babysitting described above, you feel REALLY guilty about riding off having a nice time when your wife isn't. It's worse for me as we went down to one bike when daughter was born and my wife hardly ever goes out any more, meaning I feel guilty EVERY time I go out on the bike...

Palm kids off on grandparents!!!!!---Go forth and multiply
This grandparent has a bike that he likes to ride so sort your own problems out

Unfortunately things that seem a good idea at the time do have drawbacks

Drew will be alright... he doesn't know what feeling guilty is!

Ralph, does your wife have her own hobby, that you could offer to look after the home while she goes out.... therefore earning your pass!

Hmmm let me think now....

Weekend pass, when ever I decide to have one. Weekend pass off work whenever I book it. Weekend pass, kid goes to grandparents or great grandma.

Nope this woman doesn't have a problem getting a weekend pass for me and bike time.

And when this little one is born.......Pegasus will be giving me a weekend pass when ever I want it....nine months is far too long without my bike.

There thats my foot firmly on the floor
