Clicking is low power. So as it primed.that means low consumption the volt drop not high.
Check the connections to starter and the chassis ground.might have corroded over winter .the reg would cause charging problems but I should crank and fire up.

The AA guys multimeter was showing around 12v with ignition on & off, but then voltage was dropping to 6-8 volts when trying to start (clicking). This was the same on both the old and new battery.

Re: First proper rideout of the year and my gsx-r dies in the middle of no where.
THat's across the battery ?if so visual inspection of the loom to starter. If nothing obvious can you get to the starter .It's sounding like thats failed.and if its stuck in engagement thats why you can't bump it .
Might sound odd but sniff the starter .if It's acrid smelling then not good news .

Re: First proper rideout of the year and my gsx-r dies in the middle of no where.
Update time...
Had Yorkie Chris, Tom the great and Owenski round this morning to try and diagnose what's up with my bike. After an hour of prodding and removing as many parts as possible, we think it might be buggered. Starter checked, relay's checked, fuses checked, wiring checked.. lot's of stuff checked. So now the fault has been traced as far back as the engine itself - why won't it bump start? It seems to be boiling down to the engine being locked, either because a piston and valve have collided or because the bottom end (crank/piston) has gone wrong somewhere. The camchain is in good condition, the starter gearing is good, the oil is still golden on many of the internal nuts & bolts we've removed.. Still, inventing a new tool "The bastadiser" put a smile on my face. So we're either looking at sourcing a 2nd hand running engine, or rebuilding the one which is in there depending on how shagged it is. On the bright side YC mentioned something about a GSX-R 800 if we rebuild the existing motor (and it turns out to have been a knackered bottom end). Feck my life.. Why couldn't it have been a reg rec?

Re: First proper rideout of the year and my gsx-r dies in the middle of no where.
Well there's gsx-r 750 engines on ebay going for about £350-£400, so if it's quicker and cheaper to just swap it all over with a known working engine then I'll prolly go down that route, and then keep the original engine for gsx-r 800 madness..
