Personally I went from the SV to the CBR600F (2003 model) and after only six months I switched to the gixer.

The CBR was very pretty, reliable and practical but didn't really excite me. It would make a great commuter bike but thats about it for me. Whereas the gixer is just excellent fun! If you want to just bimble then its effortless, if you want to commute then thats absolutely fine to. But if you want a bit of fun then yep!!!!! the gixer does that too!!

I would advise taking out everything on your list for a test ride and see which you prefer.

Oh, if you do get a 2003 or 2004 CBR600F I have plenty of spare parts you might be interested in

Going to have a look at a CBR600RR tomorrow.

Is there anything in particular I need to look for? The dealer said I can have a test ride so what to I need check on it? Do they have any engine/gearbox issues.

It seems to be a good buy, £3995 (will see if I can haggle)
15,600 mile 2003 bike.
Datatool, datatag, crash protectors.
Other than that completely standard.

12mth MOT, taxed untill Nov and dealer's said he will do the major service before I buy it. 16000 is the valve clearance service, no?

Would appreciate the advice of the CBR owners on the site. Off to look at the CBR forum now.

Hello mate,

First of all, go to http://www.cbr-forum.org.uk/ and make yourself known in the 600RR section.

Try dropping a PM to Scoobs as he owns said beast and should be able to give you some sound advice (well, as far as any thing could be "sound" from Scoobs, but you get the idea ).

Let us know how you get on, I'm looking at possibly PX'ing the 'Blade for a new '07 600RR

Hiya, Scoobs.

Just want to check if there are any known faults with the 03 CBR-RR. Saw something about a rear brake recall on the CBR forum but the link to the affected frame numbers didn't work.

Also, what to do on the test ride. Does it pop out of a particular gear if the engine's been abused?

Or am I right to believe the hype that all Hondas are perfect?

Trouser fitment troubles aside, this is the best bit of advice here, they're all great - which one do you like the colour of? Buy that one.

I just sold my 2004 ZX-6R 636 for £3700. It was only a year old with a years warranty remaining, 2100 miles and was absolutely immaculate with a Sprint SXC steering damper, seat cowl and R&G's. Most people thought I got a "good" price.

If you go on MCNninjas.co.uk I am sure there will be people selling the 05/06 636 with the underseat exhaust for £4000 or less and only a few thousand miles on the clock.

Hmmm, prices seem to be on the way up again. I paid £4800 last September for my CBR600RR 05 with 1,500 miles on the clock, 7 months tax, £300 worth of Acumen security and the balance of the 2 year warranty.

What swung it for me with the Honda was the service intervals. You're right, valves at 16,000 but oil change services are every 8000 (Although I'm treating mine to an interim service and new rubber at 4300 miles this week).

As a comparitor there's an 03 with 7000 on the clock here for £3,795 http://www.motorcycletradeins.com/

By the way, by all accounts the upside downs on the 05> models apparently make bugger all difference to handling over the well sorted standard forks on the earlier models.

The only mod I've found I needed tomake was to change the standard screen for an Airflow type. The only negative is there's bugger all space under the pillion seat (I can just fit a puncture repair and inflation kit).
