There are alot of arguments on that, but the safe advice is to follow the manufacturers recommendations. They say pretty much the same thing as embee (an engineer) has been saying.

Regardless of how it's run in, I would be incredibly surprised if you have a stock SV which is genuinely 9bhp more than others. I still think it's because of dyno variations and correction.

Definitely a lying dyno methinks

Nothing to do with the run in period but when a bike thats been ridden slowly and 'grannyed' too much by the rider the bhp figure is lower than when it came out the factory

Thats why I always remember to rev the tits off mine :P
