The adverts on the radio reckon 30 bikers killed or injured at accidents on junctions a day.

Thats almost 11000 a year. Do the one show not think THAT might be a better focus for the show?

there are about 350 motorcyclists killed, 5000 seriously injured (means a life changing injury), and about 20,000 with some form of injury in the UK every year

Well if 11000 of them are at junctions then that's a hell of a %.

The data from Groupama, printed in MCN 3rd April, states that 80% of RTCs involving motorbikes are caused by "other road users."

Now, they don't clarify, because I am sure if you got hit by another bike that is an "other road user."

The other issue is that their data covers 1679 claims between July and September, so, three months worth of info.

Well, if there are 25,350 incidents per year, roughly 2113 per month, then their data roughly covers about than 26% of these accidents. Not a significant amount of data there.

Also, this only covers claims made by the motorcyclists, not those against or never pursued.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with them. From personal experience, my major accidents have been caused by a 3rd party doing something stupid (pulling out while not looking & cutting a corner.)

But, technically I have had two other "incidents." Neither of which warranted reporting as little or no damage was done. (If you wanna know I fell off riding on snow & black ice independently of each other.)

But still, no one seems to form a strong enough case either way.

This TV show says that catch a few bikes every Sunday, but, how many bikers are out over the weekend who didn't ride "recklessly"?

The MCN article doesn't shine enough light on the matter either.

As Bikers our main issue is that in the eyes of "society" at large, we are reckless, dangerous and only out to harm ourselves. This view will never change with the likes of the BBC peddling this kind of tripe without providing all the facts.

Our other problem is that when we do complain, we do it in something like MCN. Now, how many non-bikers do you think read MCN?

For the views of society to change this exchange needs to happen where it can be seen, either in major tabloids, parliament or on the BBC news web-site/TV programmes.

Now, I am about as cynical as they come, so, I think that the over-all view of bikers will never change on the scale of social change. There are too few of us and our "voices" are too quiet.

There are more people that are against bikers and there are few that have loud "voices" that are heard more often and reinstate the misguided belief that we are all dangerous and it is our fault that RTCs happen where we get hurt.

I turned it off when a hint was made of bikers being irresponsible.
