Well....if you spray any oil liberally over the centre........the chain rolls it all over anyway when it moves. Haven't had a chain naff up on me yet, but then I saturate the chain in oil.

Regarding BB having done 28,000 on the same set of sprockets/chain isn't that irrelevant?
If i rag a bike then they can be way past their best in well under 10,000. However if i carefully pulled away and was all round more delicate with everything i could probably get well over 20,000 too. Different sets aren't comparable either. No? Sorry if that's already been mentioned. I went for option 1 BTW.

I'm a bit cautious about using used engine oil for anything after YC made me aware of its lovely carcinogenic properties. Eeek
