Ah, this is the rub. You will need to book your ticket 7 days in advance.

Its all very noble trying to ride distance, but believe me, after the 1st half hour in the cold and rian, you will wish you had taken the train.

Unless you intend to use the bike when you are up there, i would seriously consider the train. This is from someone who has commuted all year round and ridden distances in winter etc.

No point buying a motorcycle and not using it. Riding in the wet and cold will never be on the Suzuki adverts but is the true face of motorcycling in the UK today. The problems with living in a temperate climate.

Remember hands...cold hands don't grab brakes quick...good point I make there.

But being on the M1 for any length of time in poor weather is horrible, I learn't the hard way after going from Leeds to Birmingham in torrential rain a few years back. If I didn't need the bike when I got where I was going I would probably use the train this time of year, Warm train watching DVD's on my Laptop or freezing my nuts off trying not to be run over by a lorry on the M1, Not a tough choice imo.

you all make good points but it will be a biking expedition. i've done the train many times before, i wanna experiment with the bike.

Jake, one final tip about navigating. I find that the easiest way is to use a map to know roughly what towns you want to pass and to remember the road numbers that you want to take. Then follow the signs religiously. That way you don't need to read the map when riding, and you only need to stop now and then to have a quick check on where you are aiming for next. If it's raining, make use of covered petrol station forecourts before getting the map out though!

could I point out here that this is a 2 page thread about a quick blast? In 150 miles you'll barely have time to appreciate how crap the SV seat is!!!

Tips? get on bike, turn key, hit starter, ride off, dont hit anything.
