Y'see, people thought it strange, but this is why I had exotic pets - it's like having the Discovery Channel for real.

I started out with Annoles (tiny lizards) that are kind of the reptile pet equivalent of a hamster... don't live that long but fascinating to watch -- especially when you have a viv with five females and two males and large enough for them to have two distinct territories. Their displays were really cool, as was watching members of the harem change sides!
I found that I'd got their environment just right when I discovered eggs one day when cleaning them!
I didn't dare move them, so left them until they hatched then caught the youngsters and let them grow up safely in a separate viv. They were no bigger than your thumbnail at first and yet with perfect little claws n scales etc. Soooooo cute.

Over the years I've had:
Annoles
Ozimandias the Royal Python (who only recently died of old age ).
Malachai the Chile Rose Tarantula (still got one of her shed skins in a box, well cool).
Mephisto the Green Iguana (who beat up my dog when he was a pup, loved sitting on top of the curtain rail, as well as climbing the curtains to get there... oh yeah... and chicken curry!)

I babysat a Yemen Chameleon for 6 months whilst a friend toured the world... aparently their vision is movement based (yeah yeah, like the T-Rex in Jurassic Park ) which is why they need a drip or similar for drinking water. This one had a tube into his water bowl that blew bubbles - the movement of the surface let him actually 'see' the water was there to drink.
Also never realised their grip is so strong, to deal with the recoil from that tongue, that you can actually break their bones if you try to forcably remove them from their perch.

Yeah - I'm nerd.

But a Discovery Channel nerd, so that's OK...

... isn't it?!

LOL... I used to feed our bearded dragon crickets too, but kept losing them.. had chirping noises for ages... finally found them at last in the rear speaker amp! 5 of them, had to take the amp apart to get them, reckon they must have been attracted by the heat or something!!

Cute cameleon Fizz!
