Just a thought really! I know the magnets are only on the side and not directly underneath...
Shouldnt be a problem with the magnets.

Biggest trick will be finding a tang-bag big enough.

Seriously thinking of a bagster for my new one

Hmm, you could be right - this Dell D830 is a big old (new) thing!

Let me know what you think of it if you get one

TBH I think that the bagster tank covers look ok - but I prefer the look of the bike without.

I will probably stick with what I have done in the past - Laptop backpack, bungied to the pillion seat. Use a backpack as its easier to carry to/from the bike, and they usually are shaped better for strapping on the pillion - you can even use the pack straps to pass them under the seat for extra security.

Skip, I've used a magnetic tankbag for the last few years. One thing to consider is that my tank just doesn't look as good as it used to. The tankbag clunks on and off every day, dirt and grit get stuck between the magnets and tank and the paint suffers for it. If you're making a concious effort to use this every day it may be worth going the baglux route before the paint on the tank suffers, rather than after

Hmm good point there Jambo - its easy to think it will be ok - but doing it twice a day every day in all weathers could easily start marking it - cheers for the heads up!

Hey Skip,

I comute 250 mile round trip to gatwick once a week with my laptop in an oxford lifetime sports tank bag. Its a big old laptop and it still sort of fits. I have to undo the expander zip put the laptop in and then zip the expander pannel back down again.

The magnets haven't done anything nasty to the hard disc, and i even carry it round in there all day with the magnets cliped to the bottom on the bag. To keep the tank in good condition i use one of those rubber non slip mat thingies between the tank and the bag - cost ?1.99 in Wilko and works fine.

I have also tried lots of different types of soft panniers and the only ones that the laptop fits in comfortably are the cargo endurance touring panniers. i have some on order from infinity in peterborough. They also quite smart with carry handles and strips - so u look respectable carrying it round at work.

OK, One thing I don't understand is why people need to carry a laptop between home/work on a daily basis. Yes I use a laptop at home. but I only go into an office 1or 2 days a month if I can help it and work from home.

There should be no excuse for doing extra work at home. For the sake of your health shut off work when you leave.

I have seen silly excuses of people buying laptops "for Work" and question, if you need a laptop then your employer should provide it.

It has got to the point these days, where I carry important files on a 2.5" usb drive and use a hot office/computer if I need to visit one of our offices.

I hear what you are saying Tim - but its nicer to surf the web from my sofa (I dont have a "personal" laptop) and since I have had it the missus likes me to take it home so she can use it!

So not really for work reasons!

So either spend £200 on getting just the right carrying solution or tell the missus to go buy her own laptop for £300

Vixis's laptop broke, so I just gave her my spare laptop and configured one of the desktops for her.

Still left me with a Laptop, my desktop and 2 linux servers
