Adventure Racing = running/mountain biking + possible canoeing/swimming/abseiling/paddle boarding...... for a long period in the form of a check point scoring race, get round as many checkpoints as fast as possible is a typical race. Did a beginner event of 5hrs a few weeks ago, knackering but rewarding.

As for your cold hands, stick them down your cod piece??

But something like a refuge holiday looks cool. Thinking about doing the coast2coast myself (both ways), run one way and cycle back (still to decide whether to do the cycle on or off road).

I need a holiday to recharge my batteries and close my mind to mental and physical things. When I go abroad I slob out on a beach with a good book for half a day then go exploring the local non-touristy sights, looking for good local restaurants that don't serve any English food at all.

I know exactly what you mean! I love to do hoilday's where you do something - I went to Lanzo one year & learned to surf for a week, met some great people. Another time I did a Survival School weekend in January (it was freezing), another time I joined the TA for a weekend & blew some stuff up in Salisbury Plain (free trip/transport/food/sleeping!!!).

My worst holiday was to "Zante" in Greece - my fault, it was all I could afford & I *assumed* that there would be ruins & amphitheatres all over the place. Instead I dfound lobster red brits eating egg & chips & being absolutely wasted. For a week it was the longest holiday in my life.

Can do the beach thing but only if there are waves, a suitable hire shop & preferably some decent walks.
If that still counts.
