Bandit 650S = 50mpg average
SV650S = 55mpg average 2.0 16v Turbo Astra VXR = Average 26-27mpg. Although i've had the astra down to 6.9mpg at full chat ![]() Small cc, bikes are great, but really not that great. A tankfull means im still spending 10p per MILE on juice. Double that for a car. Its quite simply shocking how much we're stitched up big time. But a bike will always get to the location quicker, and with less stress, and thats worth it over a derv ![]() |

Ford Mondeo TDCI :-
250 a month to lease new, will never have equity, i basically rent it 50 - 52 mpg on average. Only drops below that if I really rag it. ?300 quid for a set of 4 Pirelli P6000 that last 30-40000 miles. ?130 for a service every 12500 miles ?250 per year on insurance ?160 a year tax Other servicing costs, ie: pads and disks, similar to the SV SV650S K6 :- 110 a month to buy new, will own after 3 years 40mpg usually, I ride it hard, have had 50mpg on winter bimbles or long a -road or motorway runs ?260 quid for 2 rear and 1 front of Pirelli Diablo Strada that last about 10000 miles combined. ?130 for a service every 4000 miles ?300 a year on insurance ?60 a year on tax The car costs more to buy and the bike costs more to run. Which comes cheaper overall? I can't be bothered to figure it out but your welcome to do the maths from what I've posted above and let me know. ![]() Last edited by -Ralph-; 02-03-08 at 07:36 PM. |

Yes.. on fuel alone the bike usually wins... but figure in tyres, insurance, service, and lifespan and the car starts looking better. But I'm too lazy to figure it all out. I have too much stuff to carry to work and often have to stop by the market in town for the Mrs. on the way home. I'd rather save my baby for a nice weekend ride when we can go someplace special. ![]() Last edited by BanannaMan; 02-03-08 at 09:07 PM. |

Ok... so we havnt come to a complete agreement... depends on what people ride it like.
But I ask you this, which is the most fun? ![]() Last edited by ThEGr33k; 03-03-08 at 01:28 AM. |

aye, but that's power density, which is not a measure of efficiency / fuel economy. In fact the reverse - it's because they are tuned to give such high power that they are generally pants on fuel economy.

I always got over 50mpg from my SV to, never really figured out why there seems to be such a variation in fuel economy with other riders. I guess it's just that, variations between riders.

The bike is gonna be better fuel if your city person, or commute and there are regualr traffic jams? When was the loast time any saw a bike stuck in traffic? Cars stuck in traffic use fuel! Bike don't spend the same amount time stood still with engines on!
Forgot to add that the most I got out of a tank was 168 miles, not sure if it makes a differnce but I'm on the light side, you lot are probally heavier than me. How much fuel I use also depends on how I'm riding, the harder I ride the more fuel I use, on a rideout I will use more fuel genrally as I'm riding harder, thouht I did get to work in less than 15 mins last night! So for me its hard I ride, what roads ect, city/countryside. Last edited by metalmonkey; 03-03-08 at 03:58 PM. |
