Seems a bit hit and miss then. Guess they must update it every leap year.

I just punched in details for a Kawasaki KR-1 that I know to have been scrapped (I chopped the bent frame up), it's on the database.

you should definately take this seriously. A friend of mine had his car seized and impounded when on his way to work because of this red tape. He had to pay to get it back two days later and then claim the cost back from his insurer.

Not good at all.

Well, my current SV isn't on the database, but I've made a claim against my own insurance for the damage caused to it in January and been paid out, so I'm pretty confident I am actually insured. I've got my insurers contact number with me at all times, so if I get tugged I can phone and get confirmation if the police need it.

It was the same with my pal, I dont think there is a problem with you being insured. There seems to be a problem in teh process in that some Insurance companies have a different understanding of the rules than the police do.

In my pals case he explained that he was insured but his documents were at home but the police said as they couldnt verify that then they would need to retain the car. Totally crap situation.

Mate of mine was tugged on the M20 on the way to France, the police said he wasn't on the database so he called his insurers and had them verify with the coppers. They let him on his way, but not before giving him a ticket for an unreadable filthy number plate.

If it was w/o then no, insurance is cancelled & you are no longer insured (have to return certificate)
If this is not your case - just using you as an example

My point exactly. They might not have bothered with the plate normally but having stopped him they may have decided to do him anyway.

Good point Stu. This is the way some insurance companies claw back some cash
