Anyone know where i can buy a link for a Tsubaki chain? My local bike shop "can't" get me one which seems strange....

Nice one spanner man, i got a split link today that is the right size (525) but i had heard that split link were only for up to 500cc bikes. The guy in the bike shop reckoned it will be fine. Also its not the same brand as the chain i'm fitting it to although it looks identical.

Any thoughts?

I had a split link let go at 70 mph on the A38 - not something I would like to repeat...

I think opinions on here are divided - personally I wouldn't trust it - for getting to a bike shop so that they can rivet link one one, maybe, but after my experience, I wouldnt use one long term.

Again, only my 2 penneth - I know of a few folks on here who have used split links for years with no probs, and maybe mine was not quite 'clicked' in right, but either way, for the cost, I would risk it.

HTH,

BB.

Thats enough convincing for me! I would be kicking myself if it did go on me, i'll hold out for the proper link.

The way I see it is that properly fitted, clip links are pretty secure. I wouldn't really fear one breaking or coming off, it's rare. But it costs me a fiver to get a rivet link fitted, insurance and peace of mind don't come much cheaper, so for me clip links are for riding to the bike shop to get a proper link fitted, and no more.

Morning all.

Ditto Biker Billy.

In my book it's an absolute no-no to fit a spring link to anything other than commuter bikes up to 250cc.
I know some folks swear by them, & claim never to have had any trouble, but over the years I have seen plenty of them let go with disastrous consequences. Whereas I have yet to see a properly fitted rivet link fail.

It amazes me that any shop would advise the fitment of a link from a different manufacturer to that of the chain......These types must want to get sued!

Cheers.

I doubt that the ring type makes much difference at all with respect to Vtwin power delivery, just the Xrings have 2 seal tracks, so it's like having 2 Orings.

No difference in fitting
