I am a great believer that a bike should be mechanically sound first, and shiny as a distant 2nd. My bike has not been cleaned for a year, but it rarely misses a beat

Of course what we're all after is a mint example of a bike that's been ridden frequently, cleaned often, maintained perfectly and going cheap...... So we can be the one that breaks the chain and neglects it.....

They have a 1999 SV for sale on there for ?2k - my feeling is that this is a tad high even for a dealer (?1.8 would be realistic in my mind) - of course if its immaculate, has FSH, a few worthwhile mods (ad doesn't really give much info), and comes with a really through pre-sale checkover and warranty then perhaps this isn't too bad - any thoughts?
It was still in the warrantee period with Suzuki, I cant remember how long it was. The bike was only a year old and had done less than 400 miles, I got new tyres which I wanted BT020's and taxed 1 year. I also got them to agree to 20 percent discount on clothes and accessories. They stated that deal was good for that day only - suited me as I needed the kit in order to get home. So they are willing to deal if youve the nerve to barter.

Quiffs offer seems very good Stoke on Trent isn't that far away, worth a look.

Hovis sold his without, presumably he made more cash as separates, so I dont think they add much.

Early models can eat up the standard voltage regulators/rectifiers. The genuine suzuki replaclement part is differant to the OEM part, so I assume its been beefed up a bit; I've had no problems since replacing my original part.

Dont be put off by corrosion on the front forks; this can be easily refurbished, and is mostly superficial

Just make sure it's a black pointy, the rest has been covered in other posts to this thread.

I've seen Law's - Veeeeeeery pretty! - bit out of my price range though.

I can probably go to 2.2k but that would mean no dive trip for me this year - the bike would have to be truly exceptional for me to give that up - besides I think a 2.2k pointy would likely be a bit ropey to be so cheap - whereas I can get a more or less immaculate curvey for 1.8k or less I reckon

Yeah 1800 should get you a spick and span curvy, 1400-1500 a good one and 1200 a roadworthy one, keep the rest back for dive holidays

Edit: Mine will be for sale in late Septmber as I'm probably off again, but doubt you can wait that long
