After a load of hard work to get LGBT rights accepted and some daft buggers decide that clearing the bushes on the dogging site is prejudicial against doggers.

It is news like this that will set gay rights back years.

I use the downs to teach climbing to my and friends kids and the last thing I want them witnessing is a supposed intimate act between two people.

Frankly I find dogging revolting, whether it be gay, straight or even beastial. Surely it is not beyond these people to realise that the Downs are a place of outstanding beauty, overlooking the gorge. It is a tourist area and a play area it should be used as such.

All that hard work ruined by a load of folks who are outside the law anyway. I did not march in Pride for this folks, I promise you. So please don't go taking pot shots at me with your sniper rifles when I am teaching climbing in the gorge.

My advice would be keep it in your pants boys or get a room.

exactly it has done more damage than good for the gay peeps, due to some idiots who think just because someone told them they couldent carry on their illegal activity they can wave the discrimination card!!

Unbelievable. They get demoted and fined for shining a torch on them and yet the people carrying out the illegal activity are not charged!?!

I have to say though folks, as much as I hate to hear about this increasing PC stuff, and everyone says they are going to move away from Britain, I have actually NEVER come into contact with it myself! Is it all just media hype? I mean, if I was one of the firemen involved in that story I just would not let it lie. I would organise demostration, riots, get the silent majority to become vocal. But I have never seen PC stuff in the flesh. hmmmm.

As Baph has already mentioned on the council clearing the bushes thing, all that's happened so far is that a decision is about to be made and a group has raised a concern. The validity of that concern is really neither here nor there, I'm sure council's get asked far more bonkers things on a daily basis. The interpretation taken however is that a decision has already been made - I'm sure that interpretation will be re-inforced heavily once the usual suspects (Daily Mail/Express/etc) start running with the story.

On the firemen thing, I'm going to attempt to play devil's advocate for a giggle Firstly, sex in a public place is not actually illegal. In my opinion it's definitately icky and a bit yuck, but I think (and perhaps our resident angelic advocate can confirm the devil's advocate) the phrase is something like "seen or likely to be seen". It could therefore be argued that their choice of location, and time of night led them to reasonably believe there was no chance of being seen, and if a magistrate confirmed the reasonableness of that belief then no crime has been committed. As has been said, the men involved were not charged with any offence - indeed they were not actually even reported for any offence. The firemen involved had no operational reason to be in the location, they'd stopped off on the way back to base after a call, my personal opinion is this was probably driven out of purient interest. Regardless of whether the parties involved in sexual acts were men, women or hell, even just rabbits doing what rabbits do, then the firemen involved do have to answer to their superiours the question of what the hell were they doing messing around when they should be back at base in case, you know, a fire happens.

My personal opinion is that the fire chief's reaction to this whole affair was way over the top, but then I also feel that the reaction to this reaction has been inflated more than a little too.
