They've said I do have the cooling off period but they won't retuirn £15 for legal protection and admin and the rest for the days they've insured me so far.
So I paid £418 on friday and they'll only give me £377 back. *****.
I've now got to buy a policy with no ncd for £570 and they'll refund me almost £100 if it turns out I do have NCD.
hmph.

A quick look tells me most requests are free, but it is reasonable to charge a fee to cover costs. This is usually no more than £10. They have a maximum allowed time to do it as well, 20 working days.

It's £10. Apparently because I told them it was not my fault this is why they've asumed it was settled. Why do they just assume?!

I think you'll find any insurance or financial product is covered by a 14 day cooling off period, during which if you decide to cancel cover in writing any monies paid must be completely repaid.

I've asked them and they've said even though there's the cooling off period they can't refund administration, legal insurance and days used.

cooling off period isn't normally valid after the start date of the insurance? If you had had a crash on the third day you would have claimed, so why should the insurance company have to pay out (I used to work in travel insurance so this could be different) eg say you buy travel insurance travel for a week come back and cancel your policy bceause you didn't use it etc etc.

Sorry to hear about this but the best thing to do is write to peoplpe high up the company and threaten them - not just with motorbike magazines, tell them you have friends working for regional newspapers/tv shows how are they going to know, that much bad press really puts people off and therefores scares the companies.

Also, if the other guy's insurance company can't contact the guy who bought the policy with them, its their problem not yours, get on the blower to them and tell them to sort it out and if they can't you will be taken action and lots of it.

Good luck with it all mate. Insurance companies can suck ****

Thanks mate. I have now taken cover else where (now have £29 for the rest of the month to live off). I have cancelled the policy with the scum insurers (aquote - annoyingly enough a quick google shows I'm not the first to have troubles with them) and have accepted their refund of £377 but have made it clear that I have accepted it as a partial refund under protest and will be writing to them for the remainder of my money as I was missold the policy.
Bloody refund takes one to 4 weeks! I complained about this taking the **** but she just didn't want to know.

hi mate sounds like you missed a trick here, phone the insurance company you that you got the 2 years ncd with and ask for your proof of ncd as they have accepted it was the 3rd parties fault it does not get held against you then use the certificates they issued you to go to antother company, as for the admin fee sorry but your liable for that and charges for the tapes if you want them but if you have a friendly soliciter ask them to send a copy of the tape to their office to be used in a fraudulant sales case your takin agaist them this may just light a fire under them
good luck mate i'm sorry to say you'll need it

Hi Dave
Not sure quite exatly what you mean there. Do you mean the insurer I have the NCD with might send me a certificate even though there's a pending claim?
Thanks for your help I'll do that with the tape!
