[quote=Blue_SV650S;1680169]So basically you don't try!!

What I said was I don't try to go faster than I feel comfortable - I would suggest Mr Rossi rides as fast as he feels comfortable ... nuff said.;o)

you don't have to be going 100mph to be "fast" ... sometimes, 30mph would be considered fast

2 days because again anything after that you'll end up back in the way of diminishing returns; you can make good progress on the first day, get some solid lines down and be happy with it, second day get up and push to find the last few tenths. If you can crash in a controlled environment I doubt it would be as painful as could be, it doesn't necessarily have to be a crash, but if you have a few moments, tyre stepping out without you wanting it to do so, front tucking a little, that sort of thing. If you find the limits of the bike and know exactly where they are you know to either push them very slowly or work on something else.

I was just trying to think of a methodical and logical way of getting faster. Psychologically if you can get over a crash and immediately push again then that's good, fear is a major part of getting yourself up to speed I think! It's unnerving trail braking or the first time your knee scrapes the ground, makes you scared. If you can relish that feeling then that's a good thing, I think. And if you have deep pockets, it definitely helps :P

A stunt rider was quoted in streetfighters "you need deep pockets and a high pain threshold" lol

Makes sense ... you have to ride over the limit to know where the limit truly is ...

I know you had the front go the other week, but have you used the same procedure on the road?

I had the rear go last week, I've had the front tuck or slide a little and saved it a few times. When the rear went I almost saved it, but then immediately got back on the bike and didn't try and get my elbow down :P In fairness, had I been paying more attention instead of trying to get said elbow on the ground it's unlikely I would have crashed. So I stopped trying to do silly things and instead just try and work on smoothness, trying to feel if the bike is going to slip and trail braking into corners, knowing the lean angle available.

How do you go faster ? …..
Its riding days, weeks, months and even years………..
Straight forward riding day in day out, will give you experience ……….
Ok back to your question……
Go as fast as you like / can …… when you get that heart stopping feeling that’s your limit
On normal roads remember it may not only be you, that gets hurt.
So some rider is going really fast. Great for him. If he comes off (god forbid) what sort of carnage will he leave behind him, not only other road users but also family and friends…
Go fast on a race track, to get to your limits……on normal roads its just not worth it….
There are too many idiots out there for us to contend with…
When you shout oh no no no and you get a sharp pain in your heart…….that is you limit.
Few people said they ride within their limits….
They are those that come back from a ride out saying “that was great”
Pushing your limit and its always going to be “almost lost it on such and such bend / fXXX me I almost killed myself”
I’d Ruther be the former..

Ride safely and enjoy the ride….and ride for your self……
There are lots of fast riders out there, I have NO intention to keep up with them..(I like to get home) …

It didn’t really answer your question but your asking how to go fast….
Tell you what, fear stops me from going really fast and when I get to that, point.
that’s my limit.
Sorry to rant

Not being able to stop in the distance I can see to be clear if I go any faster and exceeding the speed limit by more than I am prepared to are the two main obstacles to my going faster on the road. I am not a particularly "fast" rider, but have little interest in getting much quicker than I do presently, as 95%+ of the time, it is the afformentioned two things, rather than any deficit in skill that prevents me from going any quicker. Sometimes I'll be overtaken by someone who isn't necessarily riding 'better', simply that they are more prepared to risk a ban (or worse) or they consider it acceptable to ride so fast than they couldn't possibly hope to stop (irrespective of great braking skills and 'sorted' brakes) if they rounded the corner and found a car stopped in the road, etc.

Now, where's my pipe and slippers.

Further to this, what is the definition of 'quick'? How can we define this?

Quicker than your mates perhaps? But what if you have particularly fast (or slow) mates?
I changed my ISP, now downloads really silly fast.
Hope this helps Blue...
