The little foamy pink and yellow ones are what I use, they really shouldn't be coming out, especially with your lid on! As Paul said, it is about technique, perhaps you're just not putting them in right? Make sure they're pushed in as far as possible (but not so they come out through your nose ) and leave them a few seconds to expand, should sound all crackly for a few seconds then everything should be muffled somewhat.

Once you get the hang of it they'll be a piece of cake

Not sure an mp3 player is the answer, that will just damage my ears another way.

Saw these on ebay? I know it's not a huge investment but thought I'd ask anyway

Dude if you have ears hurt that much after a ride, you could well be doing damage to your hearing or may have already done so.....

I have used a few pairs of the ones Fizz mentioned they work fine for me, then I brought a bag of some other ones at a bike show, they seem to work fine. They are just soft foam. ( I can't find the bag, the house is mess as I'm packing) I have an Aria and I have use ear plugs with it.

I roll mine in my fingers and squash into a long shape and put them in like that, they expand and fill the ear canal. It can help to pull your ear back as well.

Just as example may be something like this;

I will get some at some point, they are made to fit your ear, so by the far best thing.

I have good hearing, those mostique things hurt my hears so its worth protecting.

i cover 40,000 miles per year with up to 600 miles on some days - i was getting headaches and was constantly tired. i got a set of custom made ear plugs from southern headset services for about £95 - best money i've ever spent. i have an auto com system fitted so i can still hear my mp3 bt it brings all the traffic/wind noise to a very low level. no more headaches or ringing ears and i'm nowhere near as tired.

I didnae see his link, skipped past it but yes I do. Although originally the ones I had were also free, as kindly donated by Mr KiltedGinger

I forgot to mention in my other post which Bluethunder did for me, I roll up the plugs into thin sausage shapes too

OH and Orose has custom made plugs which he says are great so I should think he highly recommends them

I am sure that someone will correct me if I am wrong but I remember reading something about not reusing earplugs too often as they get dirty and can cause damage/infection in your ear.

Hasn't happened to me, the only time I got an ear infection was from scuba diving. But you can wash them as well.

Zoggs - silicone ones for swimming - easy to fit - easy to clean (same pair for three months so far!) - comfy - handy when going swimming aswell!
