After showing this thread to Treacle, he has now decided he wants one, aswell as a tortishell (for me) and a black and white kitten.
Harry is gorgeous though! Love the pic of him on the bag

It just happens that ours is Battersea Dogs Home (and Cats) and for £60 you can rehome a cat which they have chipped, spayed and had a vet give a good going over.
I couldn't agree more. I've had a lot of waifs/strays/rescue cats. I rescued a Persian Blue many years ago, and gave her the best two years of her life considering she came to me looking like a brown underweight mog covered in leaves. Angus came in for tea and stayed, but he did camp on the doorstep for a long time, Tibbs was from my brothers litter and I insisted he came to me, with a very large hernia and three toes on his back paw. My parents old cats came from the RSPCA...but this time it was a special thing. I would like to mention though that there is a rescue centre for an awful lot of breeds both cat and dog. I've had a dog from Bassett rescue, and you pay a lot less than from a breeders and your giving an unloved dog/cat a new life.

Really? I want a really young kitten though, so I can raise it completely.. I mean I don't want to sound mean but I don't want some poor abused little kitty! Of course maybe later I would, but the first cat I want, I'd like to raise my own cat from a young kitten..

I'll check if there's a local ARC around here, not sure... probably end up going to Battersea anyway... take my backpack on the bike and give it the ride of it's life coming home LMAO.

Theres plenty of unwanted kitties of all ages at rescue places Jamie.....theres a hell of unwanted cats everywhere..mostly people who can't be arsed nuetering end up with one too many and unfortunately dump them everywhere.
Thye will come and vet you and your home to see if you are suitable to rehome an animal too, so they are confident that you can give it what it needs.
One of my dogs comes from the RSPCA and they came up and had a look at my house, checked I had a secure garden, there was room for her to sleep and have time to herself etc.

Maybe I should wait till I move out then, if I do move out I wouldn't have a garden... would that be a problem?

Like apart from having 2 dogs my Mother doesn't want to let me get another pet...

Our little kitty turned up in our garden. It was sheltering under a leaf from the rain, it was obviously very young. We can only guess that she was dumped. At least one other identical looking cat has been taken in by some neighbours - heard rumours of several knocking about. But ours is cute and sweet and friendly (and very vocal!) but the others apparently aren't

rescue centres also observe each animal, and decide if its suitable for going outdoors, wether a cat should be an indoor cat, if it would be ok with other pets.

My mums old cat sheltered on the doorstep very young. She was feral, and for 16 years we all lived in fear! I was the only one who could pick her up, flea her, worm her and attempt to get her in a box to the vet. No matter what we tried, she was the most evil cat ever. She was called Midget, had short stumpy legs, was very small and would stand nose to nose with a fox and see it off out of her garden!
This is partially why we all decided on the pedigree route this time, as my dad wanted a garanteed cuddly cat that would sit on his knee without turning on him for stroking it the wrong way, and one that actually liked him! With Harry both parents were seen, he was raised underfoot, around other cats, dogs and small children, so in effect was absolutely bombproof....and yes hes very vocal too.

I got my pus third hand. he was two yrs old and was never aloud out. The bloke how had him before me treated him all right but he was a bit skinny. I've fattened him up and he seems happy and content and he's out all the time.
