The ambulance would go through the red light straight after you, im sure you would have a pretty good case with mitigating circumstances.

I contested a fixed penalty charge for going into a bus lane to allow an unmarked Police car through traffic and won. This was on the Grays Inn Rd in Central London.

Always have and always will move out of the way for the emergency services. Gladly she is now all over the media so will be in for enough stick where ever she is noticed by the public and I would not be surprised to see another story detailing how she has been involved in some kind of altercation - It should be the case, but with the way much of society is today, it seems almost inevitable.

Hopefully it would never get that far.

If you ever have to move out of the way for an emergency vehicle on a red light then note it down, where, when what time it happened, which emergency services it was etc.

Phone up the police as soon as you can after the incident, report it and get an incident number.

The emergency services keep a record of all their blue light responses and would be able to provide evidence that they had deployed someone in that location at that time.

And Anna, too right this is absolutely disgusting and shocking but unfortunately it does happen all the time, most human beings just dont care about each other like they used to anymore..what a shame

Exactly my point, you have to prove yourself innocent. Also there may not be a record of the vehicle because it may turn out to be a private ambulance you got out of the way for and you wont even know who to ask for your proof never mind actually get any response. So most people with any experience of this kind of event will think very hard about breaking the law for a common sense reason again. The law is indeed an ****.

Something did, some sort of immature, deluded, malice. Pulling level with the ambulance and laughing etc??!? Hope vigilantes get to her or you never know what comes around goes around she could be in the back of an ambulance and the paramedics'll take a stop to have a lengthy dump and read the paper.

I do get annoyed when on these police/ambulance/fire documentary programmes they criticise drivers for not getting out of the way in advance. It's a well known issue (excepty with some of the emergency drivers apparently) that many of the siren types used are not directional, especially in built up areas. It's just impossible to tell where it's coming from. Some methods for improving this situation with white noise generators etc have been tried, but I don't think they are in use anywhere.

As for the red light issue, I don't think I'd cross one, just too much likelihood that I'd end up 3/6 points worse off and all the ensuing implications, insurance etc. If the powers-that-be want people to be helpful then they have to show that they are prepared to be flexible, which they aren't. Sorry. I'd only go through a red light if specifically instructed to do so by a "constable in uniform". I don't make the rules, I just play by them.

I certainly pull to the side and make way wherever it's reasonable, and that driver in the article is just a **** and deserves to be locked up.
