I guess you're in good company Charlie, if we liked things the easy way none of us would entertain this. I don't know about others but I rekon I must be at least a little bit mad! Good luck with the conversion. I guess if a front wheel from an can SV can be made to fit this would cut down the expense and keep the 2 wheels matching.

The usual trick is to use SRAD GSXR wheels if possible- identical to the SV one cosmetically, a wee bit lighter, and most of all cheaper! But it's harder to do that with the pointies.

I've got a GSXR front end to bolt on, which will use a standard SV front wheel & speedo drive. The bloke I bought it off (or won it off on Ebay) offerd to get a spindle & spacers made up to fit the Gixer forks. He'd done the same for his wifes SV, so he knew what needed doing.

At th mo, I haven't had time to fit it all together to see if it works. I'll post some pics once I get going. If need be, I might be able to get some drawings made up.

This is for a Curvy & I'm fitting a 1991 GSXR 750 USD forks. The benefit is that the steering head bearing are the same as the SV's, so no need for a TWF special (i hope )

Is the SRAD wheel compatible with the later forks? I'm looking to use K4/5 600/750 (or K3/4 1000) on a pointy (Is this fork setup compatible with teh curvy does anyone know?)

not quite... its a couple of mm out... me and YC have had a discussion about this.. but no one has tried it. spindle sizes etc.etc seem to coincide, but its getting the discs to fit inside the callipers. i will however be doing it over the winter as the srad front wheel matches the sv rear wheel better.

With the right yokes and spindle, that'd work perfectly in a curvy... But not in the pointy I think, to get good functionality you need to run later yokes which are designed for the more modern, narrower wheels, so the disc track ends up too far out. And with radial calipers, that's a pain. It doesn't matter if they're a wee bit off centre but you've only got mm to play with.

(PS, use the 600/750 forks, the thous then all used Kayabas which are perfectly nice, but not as good)

If you can find them, the Ducati 900SS clipons fit perfectly, no fouling. It's what's on mine, and whilst I can't drop them as much as I would like, I would have this problem with any clipons due to tank fouling etc.

only if they are USD forks as they are 50mm, i was also contemplating using the duke ss clipons but decided on gilles as i'm a tart.

also the duke ss clipons are so comfy and angled just right.

if you've got the gsxr750 steering stem somewhere handy just check that the top section of the stem where the bearing will be is 25mm. standard sv650 upper steering head bearing is 25 ID x 47 OD x 15thick. technical drawings aren't a problem for me, it's part of my job! more than happy to do some techy doodles for bikey bits for folk on the org if ever needed

The slingshot GSXRs all use the same head bearing kit as an SV
