I stopped but the motorbike behind didn't, mangled mess of bike under the under-run bar of the trailer and a perfect impression of the "Angel of the North" on the back doors of the trailer. Nobody new about the drunk falling under the front and worse than that he started to wander off home so I'm trying to keep a hold on the drunk while being accosted by a load of hysterical French villagers wanting to know why I had slammed the anchors on.
The police and ambulance arrived along with the English teacher from the local secondary school an after about6 hours the decided it wasn't my fault.
Most of this time was taken up by waiting for the drunk to become sober enough to answer questions. The biker had a couple of broken ribs, broken jaw and collarbone but lived to tell the tale
Thats well out of order.....you should have seen the biker

All Trucks should have a couple of mattresses stuck to the rear doors for just such incidents. Sign the petition now!

When i was learning to drive at the tender age of 17 i really had no clue about bikers as they never teach you anything to do with it (and they wonder why so many get knocked off ) but anyway, halfway into changing lanes i realised i was wrong and went to turn back only to find a biker trying to get through. Luckily the L plates must have made him cautious and him shouting at me made me slam on the brakes. From that day on ive always used my mirrors religiously and shoulder check to boot (another thing car drivers dont get taught to do all the time )

I almost drove into a biker when changing lanes. Luckily, he honked in time and I looked & saw him. It was about 3 weeks after I had gotten my drivers license. The guy was p**s angry, but nothing bad happened.
As a result, I use my side mirrors every time since then (5-6 years ago) and I try to protect bikers in traffic, but it was scary.. almost went over the poor guy.
A couple of weeks ago, when driving my car, a guy(in another car) u-turned in front of me and (after some hard braking), I hit him softly. I got out looked at the damage, saw that nothing bad had happened so I was actually very happy. Then I turned to the guy told him that I'm happy we're ok, but that if he had done this while I was on my bike, he would have most likely written me off.. The guy realized it and put on a very sorry face, said he was thinking of buying a bike and that he hadn't realized just how dangerously to others he was driving.

Felt kinda good to know that I took the hit in the car instead of someone else on the bike..

Never hit a rider, but I have been surprised a few times to find a bike cruising along in my blind spot. I spotted them because I actually check my blind spots. Wish some riders would use their heads a bit more. Many motorists will only use their mirrors. As a rule of thumb, when I look at their mirror and cannot see the driver it is a fair bet that they cannot see me.

Cheers
