Gladly, it's not as complex as it looks though.

The main effect (the only one used in the first and last pics) is done with wire wool, I have a bungee cord with a metal spiral egg cup on the end, stuff some wire wool into that then touch a 9v battery to the fibers, they short circuit and glow, but that then passes on to other fibers, spin it around in the air and it keeps going and hot glowing bits fall off and create the trails leaving the main lot. (the shutter has to be open for the duration of this to follow the light trail) we did it as a relay, one person controlling the two cameras (my friend has one and I had mine) so the person doing the running around in the dark could say start and stop to isolate particular effects.

I think the longest shutter opening was 1:30-2:00 or something like that. not huge amounts of time, most were only 20-30 seconds so doable on some of the bridge cameras or fancy compacts that allow such shutter lengths.

the other trails and things were a combination of LED light wands and LED torches swung or waved in various manners (yes we looked like the idiots we we were felt but at least it was dark)

Thanks for the comments everyone, always appreciated!

I bet you could get some cool effects with a grinder or an oxy torch

Those pictures are really cool Brettus. Doing some outdoors set against an old building at twilight would be awesome.
