Rule #1 - Always wear your f****** leathers.

Okay, I wasn't wearing leathers - I was wearing armoured textiles. I don't think leathers would've made any difference in this situation, as even the textiles weren't scuffed at all.

The problem was, and I don't believe that leathers would've changed this in any way, I landed square on my left shoulder. The impact also meant my head went over, and got a smack on the back of the lid. But with the shoulder going up, and the head coming down, there was a certain meeting in between, and this is why it's sore - helmet basically bashed into my shoulder.

Thank you everyone for all the good wishes. Getting better slowly, but still very sore. Will take a look at the bike next week I think - I've had a lot on this week.

Pictures... I'll get some if I can. Not sure how to approach the council on this...

Sorry to hear of your off, BillyC. Glad it appears to have been a
minor accident.

Didn't you have your arm run over by a truck a few years ago? Or am
I mixing you up with someone else?

Exactamundo. You LIVE with the Oracle and you forgot the main rule of motorcycling. Tut tut.

Yes, of course, Squidney's number one rule of motorcycling - don't crash. Being, as I have been, Mr Squid's paduan learner (maybe not a very successful one) - this seems to be more of a guideline than a rule.

At best is considered "best practice" and good advice. Which is clear as daylight!

Anyway thanks for the continued messages... and to Debs for offering to check out the offending soiled road. Not sure I'll bother, council will surely blame the construction work and contractor, as it was clearly hardcore type gravel.

Professor - you are quite right. 24 June 2004 was my last, and indeed only proper accident. My right arm was run over by a large box van type of truck - one of those 7.5 tonner things. A month of recovery and getting my arm straight; then a couple of months later surgery to remove a secondary infection; and another 3 weeks with an open wound.

Life's a journey... I'm glad I seem to have explored more than most.
