Nothing wrong with high mileage (petrol) bmw's mate. My 99 528 has 145k on it and still runs superbly. Also only costs £185 a year to tax unlike me mates 2 year newer one which costs £450 or so. They are very nice cars to own and drive but you immediately become one of those bee em driving ****s when you get in one (can't help it).
I don't know much about the diesels but the straight six petrol engines are almost bomb proof. I know you are looking at newer ones but dont worry about the mileage too much. Just make sure its been to either a good indie BMW mechanic or a stealership for every single service. Run the wrong oil in them once and they're ruined(they use the £20 a litre stuff from halfrauds). |

4-6k a year then try a petrol. 330 or a 530 will suit you. If you're really lazy (like me) get an auto they have amazing auto boxes and I will probably always have a big fast automatic car for driving to work now. Sitting in traffic is bearable then, especially with the tv on!

If you are only doing 4-6k a year look at some of the "bigger" BMW's. My mate has just picked up a mint 540 that's got every extra you can think of for under £10k. It's not the most economical car to drive, but given he spends most if his time polishing it in the garage it doesn't matter.
