what about....
the spacer between the sprocket carrier and wheel bearing
with it missing, you would do up the wheel thinking all was good, until the sprocket bearing failed and it then the wheel moved, all while at speed.

this is the only way i can think that the person could have moved at all in the first place thinking all was ok.

Good morning all.

Collapsed sprocket carrier bearing anyone? I had one similar to that some years ago on an FZR600. The customer actually rode the bike until the rear wheel locked up, as the sprocket nuts jammed against the swinging arm. He claimed not to have noticed anything untoward going on!

I also had a CB500 come in with a collapsed bearing which was so bad the outer of the bearing had disappeared! Again he had ridden the bike until the rear wheel stopped. He said he thought the grinding from the back end was beacuse he had forgotten to lube his chain for a few weeks.

There are some DI@K heads out there aint there! What's worrying is that their on the road with the rest of us.

Cheers.

This is what i was getting at, but unlikley just that alone would do it, the spacer between the carrier bearing and wheel bearing would have to be missing to make the wheel move sideways.

I've found out who's bike this is...
He's on the SV rider site, snowman88 took the photos and went to pick the bike up with him...
He's only just bought the bike and is not responsable for the damage as I read it.
