Well if not then, because it's necessary to work. I pay the ridiculous premiums so I can have a slightly better job, I need the car to do my job which makes the car pay for itself.

Yes it was.

I must have been lucky as I have never (and make a point of) paying more than £600 at the very most for any insurance.

I dont drive small cars either, first car was a 1.9 205 gti at 17 £598 fully comp.

Went onto all sorts, 309 gti, 405 mi16, fiesta rs turbo, escort rs turbo, primera ezx, mondeo st200 then the 220 the list is endless but all under £600 and TPFT at the very least (usually on the older cars).

I know its based not just on age and engine size etc but also on postcode and type of car and type of security too.

Am I just lucky or do I just shop about for the best deals?

Its not like I'm really old either but both my bikes and the car put together dont even come to £600

Where are you guys getting these quotes from?

You possibly got there before all the spotty spaztics raped the statisics, I shop around extremely well, can't afford not too. I could make a point of refusing to buy insurance if it's over £600 but if that means I'm doing a job and earning £6k less I'm shooting myself in the foot for not just splashing out £3k on insurance.

Fair point.

Jenn has just totaled one of my cars, lost her no claims bonus (insurance company seems to have frowned at the fact that it was on its roof when she climbed out), has been driving for 2 years now and it 27.
The car is parked on the street and is a 2001 1.4 206.

Insurance, FC just over £600.

Age and gender will be the main factor for her, I'm 19 and male and needed a high mileage policy with business cover. I've had an old bike accident settled in my favour now and aged so things are getting a bit better.

Slightly more on topic with monsieur speirs - sounds like they're just trying it on shop around if you hadn't already. I would every year regardless, I wouldn't trust leaving it up to them to name a price.

I don't pay for my car stuff but my girlfriend who has 8 years no claims and is 25 just tried to change the car on her insurance as she is 6 months in and they refused to insure her new car because it is over 20k. So she has had to cancel her insurance for the year and start again.

It's a bit of a joke nowdays this insurace business.

becos fraudulent claims are costing the insurance industry billions and they need to recoup their losses somehow... for every 10 files we handle.... 1 is fraudulent. impacts the your premium come renewal....

This is aimed at the companies rather than just you but; if they can prove that statistic why can't they recoup the money from those responsible?

I usually go on all the usual comparison sites, compare/confused etc, and then check the cover/conditions to make sure there are no hidden nasties. I have business use but reasonably low mileage. Inevitably I end up with one of the well known names (RAC/AA/MoreThan/Aviva etc).

As the others say, I think they do tend to try it on a bit on the basis that quite a few people will simply renew anyway. Also it's quite common to get a quote online, then phone them and give the quote reference, and they come up with a lower figure than the online quote. That happened to me last car renewal with the RAC.

It might be worth speaking to a broker, sometimes they can get a good deal for you specifically.

As we all know, the insurance business is a complete mystery, but that's the way it is.

would make more sense and i agree totally

takes lots of man hours to investigate and the police arent that "bothered" with white collar crime... (and that from an ex cop now investigating insurance fraud) and its not really the insurance companies themselves, but the insurance institute affiliate which also covers you and pays out your claim if hit by an uninsured driver etc.
