I can think of one example here in Oxford where cycles are NOT meant to use the bus lane, and are instead directed to the other side of a small raised pavement with the cars. I don't know why but I guess the fact that cycles are on the sign signals to other road users that they have every right to be in that lane. What annoys me (as a cyclist) is when some c**t in a car shouts at me to use the cycle path when I chose not to. It states in the highway code that cycles can choose whether or not they use the cycle lane. If a good quality surface is provided then I will use it, but painting a white line on some pot hole ridden pavement occupied by pedestrians and bus stops is not helpful (thanks Oxford city council).

I reckon there will be peace between Palestine and Israel before this debate is concluded. Mind you, it is good to have a rant now and again.
Now, where did I put my SPD's ??? |

I've never had to face 3 seperate oncoming cars/mopeds/motorbikes/vans/lorry's, (you name pretty much anything else on the road) on a one way street in the space of about 1 minute. Did with 3 bicycles though yesterday, hence the rant I guess. You always get the odd one, but this time it was just one, then the next, etc. I'm all for bicycles being on the road. But if some cyclists can get away with most things, then when you have Moron + bicycle = Can get away with a lot and start being a danger to themselves and others. Morons ride and drive anything, but we have penalty systems that could ultimately leave you with no license if you did enough stupid stuff. I'm just saying no matter how big or small you are, if you're on the road, everyones in the same game and its the same rules, which I'm sure the vast majority of cyclists appreciate. But bikers/drivers who don't stick to this face points/penalties. Cyclists need some sort of 'whipping' into place like the rest of us, so the morons on bicycles cant do crazy stuff and get away with it. A question for any traffic or ex traffic cops as I actually don't know, but if you came across a cyclist going the wrong way up a significant stretch of 1 way road at quite a speed, would you have to do anything, or can you let them be? I think this post is really funny, the funniest thing I've read in ages. Motorcyclists getting all moralizing about someone else breaking the law and advocating that due to a small minority of a group doing so ALL of that group should be treated with disrespect and abused? Impressive. Makes a change from posts bleating about 'this gage driver did this..", or "This copper stopped me just cos I had a small plate and a loud pipe and was going a bit over the limit" Riding 2 (or even 3) abreast is not against the law just inconsiderate. I guess there may be some folk on here who never break a law and never have but my 50p says they are in a minority. Or is it just ok to break the laws you don't agree with? |

I'm not on about braking laws or being disrespect to anyone I'm talking about cyclists that think their immortal and don't look before changing road position, as a biker i wouldn't change lane without having a life saver glance and I have MIRRORS too? most cyclists just stick there hand out and think all is ok ...

I know loads, I ride with lots of them and I take notice of all cyclists I encounter on the road and there is no way that MOST of them behave in this way. I see lots of road users go through red lights (pretty much every set during busy periods) and very few of them are cycles. Basically some folk are idiots and it doesn't make any difference what there form of transport. There is basically only one rule which people apply on the road 'might is right', motorcyclists generally don't agree with this as they are usually the least 'mighty' perhaps this is why they want to have a pop at cyclist so much - It's there one chance to exercise this rule. |

Car drivers Bus drivers Motorcycle riders Lorry drivers on the motorway Do that to.... Thing is the media dont hype it up and make people think its OK to treat the drivers of those vehicles with derision, unfortunately it seems that if you are a cyclist, you are fair game. I've been sworn at, spat at, had stuff thrown at me out of car windows, I've had people try to run me off the road before to. I had a carf squeeze past me one day only for it to then pull in front of me and brake which resulted in me nearly hitting the back of it. Some people think its funny or a laugh to treat cyclists in this way, Personally it saddens me that you can devalue a human life in such a way as to use a motor vehicle as a weapon to intentionally cause people harm. The last person that nearly had me off, I caught up at a set of traffic lights, needless to say he didnt feel like a big man after having me shout at him through his car window while a bunch of school kids watched. He overtook me so closely that his wing mirror skimmed my elbow, WTF gives anybody the right to endanger me like that. I'm sick of feeling and being made to feel like a 2nd class citizen when I'm out on my push bike.

Complaining about cyclists is like moaning about the bosses son at work, cycling is green transport and can therefore do no wrong and can everything it wants. I bet if solar powered cars jumped lights they'd be let off too.

I think cyclists as road uses should have to take a training course just like car and motorcyclists do and should have some form of insurance too.

I'm a cyclist myself but what annoys me is the people who ride there bikes at night with no form of lights or hi viz on. I had to swerve to miss one the otherday, was lucky that there wasn't anything coming the other way. How can people think that this is safe. As has been said a few times on this thread yeah theres lots of idiot cyclists about but you only notice the idiots. Its the same with driving a car you always notice the idiots.
