I did notice I could get a lot more down the straight by taking a different line out of Coppice and into Charlies. I ended up passing a lot of people coming onto the straight by getting the power down a *lot* sooner. By taking a wide line over the brow of the hill, turning in late for Charlies and making the second apex (of the two kinks) the one to hit, I was able to get passed the bigger bikes that were all using the first kink as the Apex, and getting a good stretch on them despite them being 5-10 yards in front on entry.
Yep, that's my line too. Normally I manage to overtake the R1's etc before they got straight, laid down 100bhp more and blasted me out of the water (before catching up again at park)

There were two 250 stroker bikes there and I really tried all day to follow them to see what line they were taking, but each time I came across them I was either too knackered to follow them or still on cool tyre laps.

I was also genuinely surpised as to what my fastest line through Chris's was. I passed a lot of guys on big bikes (not in a bragging sense) around the outside (up to 5 at a time) by taking it really wide and turning in late for the goosneck.

Its very interesting the difference a line makes in bike size. I was probably 5-10 mph faster through there than the bigger bikes because I hadn't had the power on the previous straight, or maybe because I could crack the throttle wide open and they had to be careful with those extra 80 horses? Dunno but it was surprising..

It got pretty annoying during the busier periods to get passed everyone in the corners and then have them come flying past on the straights, then hit the brakes early and you had to then get passed them on the brakes again. I ended up rolling off the throttle on several occasions to let them get far enough ahead to get some empty track. But then thats the exact reason Open track days are so good. Head in for a cuppa and then head back out again!

I'm definitely going to do another OPL day, it was worth the full price just for the last 10-15 lap session, like having your own private track!

... because almost everyone else had fallen off!

The last hour there were maybe 5 bikes left on the track! Nice!

I need to get on one of these soon.
I think it would be ideal for my first time on track. Would be even better if I could get someone to give me a few tips on track.

I am sure that OPL's aren't reccomended if you're a complete novice? I guess it depends which company you book through though.

Some cracking pics!

Why the Hi Viz YC?
