I was on the motorway within minutes, I had a NEED FOR SPEED. It was the biggest bike i'd ever rode though, and with new leathers I had bought 10 minutes prior, so I was quite stiff, and the bike felt like a million tons.

But twisting the throttle 1cm and feeling like theres a gazzilion miles waiting to be unleashed in the rest (unlike on a Van-van) was immense

Ive not really had any short commings with audi drivers, its all been BMW drivers with me, had one today coming onto the a50 island on me way home, hit the island at 40, headin towards the inside lane, the island was all clear, and M3 came up on my right and squashed itself between me and the curb, doin about 80 at a guess, it missed me by about a foot as i sat the bike up and slammed me brakes on, thankfully there was nothing in the middle lane, else idve gone under it, T**T
anyway, thats been my first near miss on me SV, and it damm well better be me last xD
anyway, its interesting to read about peoples first rides, its nice to know i wasnt the only one who was nervous hehe keep me comming!

I dunno, it was 32 years ago and on a Yamaha FS1E. I can barely remember what day of the bloody week it is right now, let alone what it felt like to ride a dog slow, foul handling, piece of crap in April 1978. It can't have been that bad because it didn't put me off bikes forever.

My first rides were around the lanes on a C50, completely illegal. Any time I was near town I was bricking it I'd get a pull. The back brake on that bike was half-shot, I'd have to stop if I used it to pull the arm back, or it'd stay on! My first tour was dragging a 125 right round the edge of Cornwall from Dorchester. Ouch! Brilliant, esp over Porlock. Not so great on the A38 from Plymouth to Exeter. Just full-throttle, head on the clocks, with aching legs!

First time on public road was on a clapped out BSA Bantam that I bought for next to nothing.I rode it home about twenty miles but there was a reason it cost only pence--------It had only top gear.It would be a collectors item now.A real carp one though.

My first 'proper' ride was probably with a group off the .org starting at bassett pole...

I can't even really remember who was there except pete and Lissa on their sv. It was a great ride in the wet and dry, riding through floods and nearly going straight on at a corner on the cat and fiddle. It was a steep ass learning curve, learnt a hell of a lot following pete and Lissa over the years.

Sounds like you had an awesome day - great innit!

My first ride was pretty awful on my old Guzzi - got 1 mile up the road and it conked out - had to call the old man to rescue me Once he'd sorted it I went out again only to be confronted with a horrendously stiff clutch, vibes that hurt my hands and the back wheel kicking out everytime I changed gear (V Twin, shaft drive )

....once I got to grips with the old boy though it was such good fun bike - and his name was Monty (Monty Guzzi )
