Default Re: Front carb full of fuel?

Re the above warnings about turning it over and hydro locking: It would be very wise to follow them.
However I doubt that the cylinder is full as that would require a significant volume of fuel, I suspect the inlet valves are closed in that engine position and that the sealing of said valves is demonstrated to be very good indeed!
All the same I would get rags or perhaps even paper and soak up as much of that fuel as you possibly can before turning the motor over, without the plugs in obviously.

Managed to get the screws out of the float bowl and this is how it was inside

so i took out float and needle and gave it a quick clean but there wasnt much to clean

so took out float needle pre filter and was a bit mucky in there so cleaned that

then checked float for any damage and found none and checked float needle for wear and nothing there either

So ive had it all to bits and cant find any reason for the problem so im going to put it away for today and have a beer and a think, with your help of course before i put it all back together again to see what happens

Refit the float seat, needle and float, attach a hose to the fuel inlet, and hold the carb just above horizontal on its side so that the float tang just touches the needle but does not compress the spring in the needle - the idea here is that the needle will *just* be closed but with no great pressure on it, then blow down the hose, gently move the carb such that the float swings onto and off of the needle, as you do so you should be able stop the flow of air with the needle held on its seat, and allow it to flow when you swing the float away. If all is well you should be able to stop the flow when the carb is only just above the horizontal - you shouldn't need much pressure on the needle to close it, even if you blow quite hard.

I've had a bike ****** fuel before because it had a stone/bit of grit stuck in the valve seat.

I noticed it when I took it all apart but it was quite a large chunk, you might have missed something (especially if small) just dropping out when you took it all apart.

Great tip that, ive just done it and that all seems to be in order. Havent put the carbs back on yet so hopefully it was just a bit of grit/crud jamming the float. While carbs were off i thought i'd put a lenghth of pipe on the front of carb as mentioned in a post by YC (arrowed) to aid balancing carbs at a later date.

Hopefully when i put it all back together again it'll be right. Will keep you posted.
