Yeah, the bank account is groaning a little for these two and I think it'll be camping in the UK for summer this year

To get there you need to do the 'Road of bones' don't you

epic trip, although pampered film stars with support vehicle

Do you reckon you could do (and do it easier than a big ADV) with something like an XR400 kitted up for overlanding? I just thought that the smaller bike might be better on the rough stuff.

Its not the cost of these trips that put me off, its the planning and the lack of knowledge of these places.

We met two guys doing just that:

TBH I wouldn't be that concerned taking a big bike like the KTM, most of the piste ridinig was fairly fast where the 990 feels rock solid and stable with plenty of juice

My concern with a 400cc single would be that you'll have to pull some longish tarmac stints, I suspect I'd find my old DRZ just too much of a PITA

The lack of planning of knowledge is what makes it an adventure, we had nothing planned bar a rough idea of a route two guys had done before and a map, if you've never been to North Africa before you might find the culture a little bit of a shock but you'll get used to it in a few days

If you have any specific questions just shout, otherwise there's a good book by Chris Scott on traveling in Morocco:

It's an optical illusion. I'm actually 7 feet tall, but standing waaaaay in the background.
