chrome on mac is good. Snow Leopard isn't what it's hyped to be.

snow leopard isnt that big a change if thats what you mean, there are just small features that are different, but you will definatley notice them, and a speed difference with things like booting up and shutting down, and yes chrome is nice, but ive reverted back to firefox as chrome kept crashing on some web pages

dont think upgrading to snow leopard would be such a good idea...
the os is tiger means it's using the old powerpc processer, and snow leopard do NOT support that. http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/ try download a firefox from the link above and that should at least solve your problem. |

Pah, Snow Leopard isn't compatible with PowerPC Macs according to apple....in reality however it works fine.
I'm surprised people are suggesting upgrading to snow leopard to fix a browser problem....go to the apple website and get the safari standalone installer, drag safari.app to the trash, empty it and install the new one...easier than doing it on a PC. Failing that install Firefox or Chrome, they're both awesome on OSX. |

I'm suggesting that upgrading to Snow Leopard was the best my brother has seen suggested to do, he has researched this issue well, I haven't, but take his word for it. While not the only solution, it would enable a fix, and upgrade the system to the most up to date version of the os. Providing the system has a 64bit processor, which I'd guess there is a reasonable chance (without researching, I think they were introduced late 2006), that would be good enough reason alone for warranting the upgrade. For simplicity, yeah sure, just install firefox or chrome, but I'm talking about fixing something, not working around it and living with the problem.
If you cannot see the benefit of upgrading to Snow Leopard over Leopard, perhaps you don't know enough about the improvements that were made, now were talking Tiger to Snow Leopard, for me, it's a no brainer. RH, if you would like to take this to PM and get some system specs together, I'll see what I can do for you ![]() |

Nonsense. Intel Macs debuted in 2006, but Leopard wasn't released until late 2007, so they all used Tiger until then.
The best way to determine the processor is by looking at About This Mac. This is irrelevant however; there is no need to upgrade the entire OS to fix a browser issue. RH, if you want to upgrade the OS you can do it for about £20, but this is the upgrade to Snow Leopard from Leopard, which you don't have. So technically, you should upgrade to Leopard first. Before you try anything else, I suggest closing all Safari windows and choosing "Reset Safari" from the Safari menu. Then quit Safari. At that point, you can download the latest version of Safari and install it. This is a worthwhile step irrespective of any other problems you may encounter, as there are improvements in performance, security and compatibility in the latest version of Safari. Having said that, I try every new version of Safari that is released and I always come back to Firefox for speed and features ![]() If that doesn't work, then it may be time to wipe and reinstall the OS. I use Tiger at work and it's perfectly fine. Don't upgrade unless you are aware of specific features that you want, or unless you have too much money kicking about ![]() Finally, back up everything now. Hard drives fail and your photos should already be backed up. Use a program like SuperDuper! to make a bootable copy of your machine on an external hard drive. I use this and it meant that when my hard drive failed in early May, I lost almost nothing of any importance.

The discs offer a clean install, not just upgrade for people with leopard. I paid my £20 and upgraded fully from 1.4 to 10.6.

That doesn't mean of course, that you can't physically do it; Apple does not copy protect any of their software. But it's still illegal, according to the EULA.
