Why should that be surprising? A helmet made of inch thick steel lined with mattress foam would pass the tests, but would hardly be practicable. ECE 22.05 and SHARP are impact tests and nothing more. Passing impact tests is easy; combining it with comfort and wearability is difficult.

Is the sharps test to be trusted???
Yep my AGV stelath £150 carbonfibre and fibreglass shell etc 5 stars and is very comfy.

Just because Arai are £470 doesn't make it a good helmet.

They now do front back and sides tests, it's a guide and nothing more, use it but it's not the be all and end all if everything.

interestingly, anything with a side pod will fail, and a galvanized bucket would get 5 stars....

You right. The fact that they do masses of R + D and QC and if it fits you properly will make it a good helmet.
With arai you buying £300 worth of helmet and £170 of customer service. Maybe it is worth it to you maybe not.
