Yep. A few times already I have *nearly* dropped the bike (2nd to 1st, hit neutral, going too slow up a kerb to park etc) and I managed to save it...just. No doubt with an extra 40kg's I'd have dropped the bugger.

When I got mine I had only done a bit of research. No friends from school are into bikes, none of my family are into bikes so I was slightly blind as what to get. Looked around, found a few I like but always came back to the sv. Not sure why there was just something that kept drawing me back to it. Anyone else find this when they bought theres?

I'd imagine so. Buying bikes is very much an emotional affair for most!

I bought my curvy because I like the looks, I like the fact I can modify it relatively easily to be unique and very much my own, and certainly cheaper than most bikes in the same kind of category to modify.

Add to that on-tap V-twin torque mountains, and the fact it takes to restriction very well with a very wide power band, and it's a pretty good bike.

Plus the one I bought was pretty well set up with shocks and new fork springs.

Cheap and cheerful, insurance cost, excellent 1st bike but people move on. Its a bit like cars, very few have a Ferrari as their first car.
If money was no object and no license restrictions how many would still buy an SV?

it would be the Aprilia for the days where the weather is prefect and probably something like a SV or hornet for the daily

Because it was the best performance for price I could afford at the time (I'd tried a few mad IL4s and wanted a GSXR11 at the time, but wanting to do it legally, the insurance was mad). However I seem to have stuck with it despite owning faster bikes and slower as well. It's the most balanced handling bike I've ridden and more fun round the twisties than should be legal. I've developed the opinion that much more than about 90bhp and the associated straightline warrior antics is a mugs game.

I agree with Chris that the bike is balanced and takes a exceptional rider for a il4 to get ahead in the twisties.

I've followed me mate on a il4 and he could not get ahead in the bends and he couldn't keep up in sections when i was leading

I got mine purely by chance. I was in the right place at the right time. I had recently sold my first bike (54 plate, Bandit 600) and was looking at a 2002 CBR6RR (which I really fancied, but meant a small loan) in a dealership when the previous owner came in and asked to put a ad on the shops notice board.

The rest is history... I sold my Bandit for 1.9k and bought my 56 plate SV for 2k. It had 1900ish miles on it and 1 year left on the warranty at the time. It now has just over 15k on the clock.

I bought mine cos I was seduced by the looks of it in the shop. I didn't know anything about bikes at the time, and I went noseying around in a bike shop and saw an SV, picked up the brochure, and had to have one. Hadn't passed test at the time, and then signed up here, which only confirmed the decision.

A faired pointy is a very handsome bike IMHO
