I'm holding out of it. Seems to me, the private stuff can be dealt with via email/ym and thus, I will not touch the thing. Looks a lot like posting private things just so the world can see'em...
Plus, I think excess online social networks have a tendancy to disconnect from the real world (you know, the real people in your life you're not talking to because you're busy posting on facebook)

This is a very valid point.

Don't forget that chatting to people on line who respond to your comments with a simple LOL or PMSL is not really chatting, especially when there is a bright young thing capable of exchanging ideas and engaging you in conversation, sat right behind you getting more and more bored with the silence.

Obsessive Facebook use is bad, think of your loved ones who will reply to you with more than a ill-considered LOL because they were too bored to type a real reply.

Me bitter? What could possibly make you think that I am a Facebook widow?

I tend to use facebook sporadically...I wont go on it for months, but then a flurry of activity might catch me eye for a few days.

Or after events like the AR, where people post their pic etc.

I use it mainly for photo's, you don't get a packet of prints from Boots anymore that you pass round over a coffee, and getting the laptop out when people visit is a bit geeky and anti-social. I tried using photobucket, and emailing a link, but people never looked at it the same as they do when it appears on their facebook page. And you'll notice that lots of the AR photos have been put on Facebook, then a link added to the org, that's because people don't want the hassle of publishing them in two or three places. There will always be FB dissenters, but it does have it's uses.

I rarely use it these day's tbh. It's good for keeping in contact with folk, but for me that's about it.

I had a blast with facebook when I first signed up - finding out what everyone from high school and college were up to etc. Haven't touched it in over a year now so I closed my account down a couple weeks ago.

I'm on it but never use it apart from when people who LIVE on it demand to see pictures and can't comprehend a link to Photobucket.

I like it, some of the games are daft but they're good for killing time, and it's brought me back in contact with folk I lost touch with years ago.

It's a good thing IMHO.

Just don't leave all your settings public by default then go saying something 'likely to bring *your employer* into disrepute' Allegedly
