The police speed everywhere, they know that unlike the great unwashed they're not going to be pulled for eg 35 in a 30[1].

Saw a police speed camera van in halifax set off one of those speed activated sings for doing more than 30 in a 30 limit. Which annoyed me a little. Half a mile down the road he pulled over and set up his camera! Cheeky.
Those go off at about 25mph though! They certainly go off at an indicated 30 which is about 26mph on my car according to the GPS!

They're not there to knock on peoples doors to tell them thier loved one isnt coming home.

Yet they have to do it, a bit of respect for one of the most unpleasent acts one human must carry out ( and yup believe it or not they are human). Accidents happen FACT, dont increase your chances of been a statistic by been completing your journey in the manor of a *****.

Well, they can always claim they were just 'testing' the car, and get let off because 2.5 years of court proceedings are suffering enough.

...to sit in an office doing paperwork whilst their job is deemed unnecessary due to erection of a speed camera. Or because the tax payer can't afford to have a policeman and a panda car patrolling the roads, so we put a civil servant in a transit van instead, and get him to park it by the side of the road and take photos out the back window

That link 404's but I know the case you refer to as I considered using it when I went to court[1]. Didn't know it had finally been thrown out though.

[1] Or rather the appeal as it makes the point that driver skill *can* be taken into consideration and that what is DWDCA/DD to one person isn't to another.

Game set and match to Ralph.

Whilst I have a great deal of respect for the police generally, it always irritates me that we as the people who pay for the police service have no say in how the money is spent. The Police Authority system is a joke - just cronyism really, all self-serving. I get a stupid leaflet from West Mercia Police with the council tax demand telling me what excellent value for money they are, and how by the way the police part of the council tax is going up 5% to pay for a new gym at Telford Police Station. And this week the police helicopter has spent a lot of time over the village, practising manoovers, at what cost??

Incidentally the latest Home Office figures show how (un)successful the police are at detecting and bringing a perp to justice.

Would it please, surprise or shock you to read that the average is 28%? Is this acceptable?

Interesting read:
