Yeah mate it's way better than me.
My mate has the tamron 300mm but he said straight away with mine he could see the difference ( he has a D90 as well), IMO do what I did, wait until you can budget for the better lense.
The nikon lense also has the VR capability as well.

All the birds in my garden are doing it atm, poor beggars...

EDIT: Really sorry Holdup, didn't read the second page of this thread before posting, you are absolutely right! and I'm most impressed with the Sun newspaper just this once...not the fact you read it however

it was only because an RSPCA spokesperson had said something, it looked really cute though, havent seen the one that sits on the fence down the bottom of my garden next to my workshop for a while, he/she usually comes to see me when im doing something to my bike

Philly-babs, I haven't got the Tamron version, I've got the Nikon AF 70-300mm 1:4-5:6 G version, its around the £100 mark from various places.

To be honest, I don't know what the quality of the Tamron is like so I wouldn't rule it out, maybe find someone that sells it and see if you can have a demo of the Tamron and Nikon lenses using your body and then get the pics home and onto your laptop to see the results....don't forget the Sigma range of lenses too
