What happens if you take some one out? insurance won't cover it so can they sue you for damage to their bikes, or does every one just know the risks and hope it doesn't happen. I would love to do it but this worries me a little that I might wipe some one out.

Are you doing both the evening and the full Saturday???
Oh your gonna be tired, and need new tyres too, but it WILL be worth it, just take your time build up progressively... and if your doing both try and take some fuel with you...

Yeah, I'll be like a burst ball by Sunday but gave it plenty of thought. Goint to stick new tyres on a couple weeks before (any recommendations?). Would still be good if there were a few other SVs about

Tyres are up to you dude. If you're a hard charging demon, then I guess it's sticky stuff you'll want, but sport-touring rubber will heat up faster and perform better if conditions are cool or damp (or both). It could be a mistake chucking sporty rubber on yout rims if you don't push hard enough to get them up to temp or if the weather is shiite. I did my only trackday on a 1200 bandit with a pair of Avon Azaro touring rubber that had done a 3 week France and Spain tour. I had a freaking ball. The tyres were better than me and that's what it's about. Don't panic too much about your tyres. If they're legal, then I'd leave them on. Unless they're badly squared off and affecting the handling. Just make sure nothings gonna fall off your bike and go ENJOY yourself ![]() Hopefully see you in a few weeks. cheers Fred

Think I mentioned this before - Knockhill need to clamp down on the "Novice Evenings". They're supposed to be for true novices who've had 3 or less trackdays but you get intermediates and advanced guys going on in the same novice sessions. Knockhill have the details of people who've booked before so it should be an easy enough job to ensure it's only novices who get on track. On the Saturday you will be on track the same time as all levels. As Dean said above you will be tired Last edited by stuartyboy; 22-03-11 at 07:46 PM. |

I used 020's when I did the track nights on the SV and they were fine for the job, dunno whats good now for the SV to be honest...
Just remember its not a race so you won't win any prizes for being the fastest person out there... Do your runs in small stints 8-10 laps at a time max. If you do start making small mistakes or are start to feel unhappy with things just come into the paddock and take a breather. I always think its nice if your on a track day to ease off about half way round a lap and give people an indication that your going to do so by lifting up a hand don't want people running into you. other things I always did on track days is take your mirrors off you shouldn't be using them (it'll surprise you how small the bike looks) and I always covered the speedo with tape I only wanted eyes for my rev's... I'm now off that friday and hopefully should have a new toy to be playing on so might pop up and say hello (won't be on the track though)

Hiya greedy4svs! My kids took part in a 9 -5 trackday today up at Knockhill. It was my youngest sons first trackday, but my older son has done trackdays at Knockhill, East Fortune, Brands and Donington - he considers himself intermediate. What Knockhill did today was split everybody into three groups
a)Novices (but included those who considered themselves less experienced Inters) b)Experienced Inters and Advanced c)Racers (and this included the Yamaha Motorpoint duo of Jamie Westmoreland and the Frenchman Loris Baz who came up, along with Rob Mac, etc to do some testing for BSB). All things considered, it all turned out pretty fairly and I was pleased for them both that the weather (apart from the drive up) was dry, but windy. They both needed extra petrol for the day. P.S. Girls - Loris Baz had an 'off' in one of the morning sessions. He could be seen in a state of partial undress in the pit lane (ahem, trying desperately not to make any sexist comments here!), but I have to say, his 'lucky' racing pants were hideous!! greedy4svs - if my kids faces are anything to go by, you will have a whale of a time! P.P.S. - BTW - nice to bump into James Mio in a layby on the way up to Fort Bill last Monday! |
